The National Roofing Contractors Association encourages roofing professionals to join industry trade associations representing contractors, consultants and manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada in taking part in the latest Quarterly Market Index Survey for Reroofing to evaluate business conditions during the first quarter of 2026.

For more than two years, the survey has taken the pulse of the reroofing industry and continues to serve as a regular barometer of the industry’s business conditions. By asking a handful of business questions and measuring responses across several demographics, the survey helps indicate the reroofing market’s strength and trajectory. Your response provides valuable insight.

The results of the Quarterly Market Index Survey for Reroofing are made available to all survey participants via an online dashboard that enables users to filter results by region and other metrics.

For the previous survey that measured business activity during the fourth quarter of 2025, 75% of responses came from roofing contractors and 25% came from roof consultants.

The survey is an industrywide effort to collect information about the reroofing market spearheaded by a coalition of trade associations, including the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, Canadian Roofing Contractors Association, Chemical Fabrics & Film Association Inc., EPDM Roofing Association, International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants, Metal Construction Association, Metal Roofing Alliance, National Roofing Contractors Association, National Women in Roofing, Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association, Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association and Single Ply Roofing Industry.

The Quarterly Market Index Survey for Reroofing is available at bit.ly/RoofingSurvey. Survey responses may be submitted through April 20.

            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

MRA announces two Best Residential Metal Roofing Project winners for Q-1 2026.

A show-stopping roof located in Promontory, Utah has been chosen as a top winner of Metal Roofing Alliance’s (MRA) Best Residential Metal Roofing Project competition for the first quarter of 2026.

Manufactured by MRA member Drexel Metals and installed by VIOTELL Roofing Solutions, the roofing system for this 10,000 square-foot home is designed to perform in Utah’s demanding climate, which includes heavy snow loads, harsh winters and intense summer sun exposure. In addition to long-term durability, the metal roof provides low-maintenance performance, sustainability benefits and improved energy efficiency typical of premium residential metal roofing systems.

This award-winning roof stands out for its highly complex roof design which has numerous transitions and intersecting planes. Metal was the preferred roofing material because it best supported the home’s architectural complexity and overall design aesthetic. The roof includes multiple facets, transitions and high-end detailing, all of which required a high level of precision to execute a watertight assembly while preserving clean visual lines.

“We’re proud of this one because it represents what high-end metal roofing should look like when it’s done right. The design pushed complexity, which demands a higher level of coordination, craftsmanship and accountability,” said Anthony Ortega, VIOTELL Roofing Solutions. “Our team stayed disciplined through every detail and delivered something that not only complements the architecture but is built to perform in Utah’s conditions long term.”

One of the most notable aspects of this project is how the roof establishes the home’s identity from the initial approach. The roofline is the first defining feature, setting the tone for the entire structure. Moving closer, the complexity of the facets and transitions becomes more apparent, framed by the surrounding landscape and retaining wall. The result is a roof that not only performs at a high level but also carries the architectural vision of the home.

MRA awarded Best Residential Metal Roofing Project to two top winners for the first quarter of 2026. The other winning entry features a stunning copper roof located in Possuum Kingdom, Texas, completed by Metal Master Roofing and Construction.
With this phase of the competition now closed, the search is on for MRA’s Best Residential Metal Roofing project for the second quarter of 2026. style=' ' loading='lazy' />

MRA announces two Best Residential Metal Roofing Project winners for Q-1 2026.

The word “impressive” doesn’t begin to describe one of the winning entries of Metal Roofing Alliance’s (MRA) Best Residential Metal Roofing Project competition for the first quarter of 2026. That’s what the judges had to say about a breathtaking copper roof installation on a home in Possuum Kingdom, Texas, located about two hours outside of Fort Worth.

Originally, the home had a galvalume standing seam roof that had been damaged by hail. When the current homeowner purchased the property, he decided he wanted to replace the roofing system entirely with copper, including the gutters and downspouts on all three structures – the house, guest house and boat garage.

Massive in scale, the homeowner chose Metal Master Roofing to spearhead the project. The company handled all the prep work and partnered with its long-time sub, Copper Masters in Fort Worth, on the installation. M&C Seamless Gutters installed the copper gutters and downspouts.

Facing supply issues that made it difficult to secure enough available copper, it took Metal Master Roofing working with different suppliers over a couple of months to get the material needed for the job. Once the project began, the crew did masterful work removing the galvalume roof, trim and underlayment, replacing all of the rotten decking. The new copper roof was installed with a high temperature ice and watershield underlayment for maximum durability and protection. The 1” double lock panels were mechanically sealed and great care was taken to form and seam the panels, as one improperly seamed panel would have been very costly. The crew also painstakingly soldered the pipe flashing, roof vents, crickets and laps in the valley to prevent possible leaks in the future.

“This is the largest copper roof we’ve installed in the 45 years we’ve been in business,” said Philip Miller, Metal Master Roofing. “The owner of the property loves his new copper roof and Metal Master Roofing is proud to have been chosen for this incredible project.”

MRA awarded Best Residential Metal Roofing Project honors to two top winners for the first quarter of 2026.
Metal roofing materials are designed to be reliable and durable through Mother Nature’s most extreme weather events. Metal experts break down ways metal roofs can be the industry’s answer.

In a recent Coffee Conversations®, host Karen Edwards sat down with metal industry experts to discuss the ways in which increasingly extreme weather events are impacting the metal roofing market. As climate change and harsh weather conditions become a frequent concern, it is critical that roofing systems and materials are up to the challenge of withstanding such disasters. Renee Ramey, executive director of the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA), and Stefan L. Boyer, co-owner of Metal Roofing Headquarters, share insights into how the superior performance and sustainability of metal materials can be a key driver for a safer, more secure future.

Home and building owners across the United States have seen an alarming increase in wildfires, hurricanes and severe storms in recent years, and these extreme weather events are looking like the new normal. Industry experts are zeroing in on finding reliable solutions, roofing materials that can withstand and outlast such weather events. The resounding answer? Metal.

“With metal, you get the durability factor, and you’ve also got an environmentally friendly aspect, too. They go hand in hand,” said Stefan. “In a severe weather event like a hurricane or hailstorm, how is the [roof] going to perform, and how well is it going to weather over time? Metal roofing is by far the best option when looking at both of those considerations.”

In consideration of the impact of climate change and how sustainable practices can help prevent worsening the environment, roofs using shingles and other non-recyclable materials are not the responsible option. On the other hand, metal roofs are recyclable and energy efficient, making them an ideal solution for owners looking for an eco-conscious and economic solution.

Educating homeowners of such benefits has become a major initiative for the MRA, sharing valuable resources and guides to selecting the best roofing materials based on regional factors and weather events. Renee shared, “As severe weather events have become more impactful and frequent in recent years, we’ve focused on educating on a regional basis, highlighting what should be considered when you’re selecting a roof based on where you live.”

“Regional weather concerns, paired with the challenges we’ve seen occurring with insurance companies, it’s really hard to argue against choosing a metal roof because of the durability it provides,” Renee emphasized. As insurance rates skyrocket and companies become increasingly difficult to work with in providing adequate or fair policies, advocating for metal roofing options as the most reasonable solution is paramount.

            class=''
            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

By Emma Peterson.

Industry insiders share their insights on the challenges facing the growing metal market and how to tackle them.

In a new Read Listen Watch® (RLW), Karen Edwards sat down with Stephen Gosk, president and CEO of MetalForming, and Chad Rowe, business development director for MetalForming, to talk about metal roofing and the state of the construction industry. The pair highlighted the challenges many contractors and industry professionals are facing, and how they can make the most of the current market situation.

Market uncertainty

As a respected metal bending, cutting, roll forming and coil processing machinery distributor, MetalForming is at the forefront of helping their customer base of contractors and metal professionals address market changes. This gives Stephen and Chad a unique perspective on the state of the industry and has placed the need of helping ease customer struggles at the center of their focus. Stephen shared a bit about what he’s been hearing, saying, “I get to talk to a lot of customers in all different markets. In general, the word we’re hearing is uncertainty.”

This uncertainty comes from a variety of sources, including but not limited to tariffs, labor shortages and exchange rate costs. Stephen shared, “The challenges aren't, in many of these cases, unique to the metals market by any stretch. Take labor for example. In general, it's getting harder to find skilled labor, whether that's on the roof or in the office.”

Opportunity in metal

But even with all of these challenges and uncertainty, the metal market is still looking very promising, if one knows where to look. Chad shared, “One of the things that surprises people is that we've had a handful of customers who started up a new business venture in the middle of all of this uncertainty. So that really goes shows the state of demand for metal.” This rise in interest in metal comes from both market recognition of its functional benefits and the development of new metal profiles, appealing features that are swaying many away from traditional materials.

Chad elaborated, “There’s far more finishes and profiles available now than there were even just five years ago. If you want a wood grain, you can have wood grain. If you want camouflage and you want board and batten for your duck blind, you can get that. All in metal!” As for the functionality of metal, Stephen explained, “It's not only just the design, but also the materials that are available. We're starting to see metal roofing that is getting recognized for how it can sustain hurricanes or fires. You're starting to hear about insurance companies starting to get into the mix.”

And the numbers back up what Stephen and Chad are talking about. Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) President, Renee Ramey, recently wrote, “The MRA’s latest research indicates that [residential] metal roofing is anticipated to reach over 4.8 billion square feet in 2028, based on historical and forecast shipment square footage numbers. It also points to a 19% increase in growth for residential metal roofing from 2024 to 2028.”
