How Newpoint™ Concrete Roof Tiles deliver durability, efficiency and style in the face of heat, humidity and hurricanes.

The climate of Florida presents a unique challenge for roofers. From salty seawater spray and consistent moisture to humidity and extreme UV exposure that gives the state its moniker, residents can’t use just any roofing material. Which is why Westlake Royal Building Products launched their Newpoint™ Concrete Roof Tiles, designed with challenging climates in mind.

Newpoint roofs deliver unmatched peace of mind for homeowners living in places with climates, like Florida. The tiles not only come with a Class 4 impact resistance and a Class A fire rating but are certified for even the most extreme wind zones. The result? When you install a Newpoint roof, you can be confident that you are delivering peace of mind and safety to your customers. Additionally, these tiles are naturally resistant to things like rot, insects and UV damage. With a Newpoint concrete roof, homeowners can trust that they’ll get lasting strength and energy efficiency that keeps homes more comfortable with lower maintenance requirements.

And the best part? Your customers don’t have to sacrifice aesthetics in favor of incredible durability. Westlake’s team knows how important curb appeal is to the value of a home, and that good curb appeal is created through a combination of architecture and exterior finishes. Subsequently, Newpoint tiles come in a wide variety of color blends that allow your customers to design a roof that fits their neighborhood and their preferences.

For the Floridian market in particular, the Westlake team just announced four unique tile color blends for the Newpoint line:

Tidalwood Blend: A natural mix of tan and brown tones inspired by stone that provides unmatched depth.

Cypress Bay Blend: The color blend's rich brown palette creates a warm, grounded character creating a timeless look.

Smoky Bay Blend: Muted grays layered over deep browns create a weathered, stone-like effect perfect for a more modern aesthetic.

Coastal Dune: Has a soft, sandy tone that creates a stunning, sun-washed look perfectly suited for bright Florida environments.

The development of these four colors allows Florida professionals to give their customers more ways to customize their home without compromising the crucial performance factors a roof needs to withstand the local climate challenges. Newpoint Concrete Roof Tiles are yet another testiment of Westlake’s dedication to blending timeless style, regional relevance, and dependable concrete tile performance.

How upselling your customers with premium products can help them spend their money smarter.

When we hear the term upselling, often it conjures an image of a salesperson who pressures you and won’t take no for an answer. But this negative connotation does not fully encapsulate what upselling is. To learn more about upselling and how it can help customers get higher-quality and longer-lasting solutions, Heidi J. Ellsworth hosted Mike Vaughn of Westlake Royal Roofing Solutions’ DaVinci Roofscapes, Jake Daniels of Classic Construction & Consulting, Cody Raymond of Westlake’s Unified Steel and Austin Davis of The Roofing Center for an episode of Roofing Road Trips®.

Upselling at its core is the process of selling a customer a higher-value, more premium product than they walked in thinking they were going to purchase. A big reason those car salespeople try to upsell their customers through pressure is because it can lead to more revenue. But there are other reasons salespeople upsell their customers that are not tied to profits. Austin shared his team’s philosophy on upselling:

My team, we view our role as an educator. We enter every customer conversation with the goal of finding out what the homeowner needs out of their roof. And a lot of the times we see people looking for durability and savings. And from there, we try to educate them on how investing in premium products, like DaVinci and Unified Steel can help them get to those goals.

Cody added, “The perspective of being an educator is huge, because homeowners don’t know all the details. They don’t realize that premium products like DaVinci and Unified Steel might be more expensive now, but over the course of the roof’s lifespan they’ll actually save them money.”

How does investing more in a premium roof save you money? Mike explained:

When we're talking about Unified Steel and DaVinci, aesthetics really stands out. These products make buildings look really fantastic, which raises property values. And they are also really durable and quite low maintenance... So not only does this mean you get peace of mind with these products, a lot of homeowners get savings related to their insurance premiums. Further, these roofs last longer than asphalt’s typical 20-year lifespan, meaning you have to pay for fewer roof replacements overall.

At the end of the day, Jake put it best when he said: “Unified Steel and DaVinci products create beautiful, long-lasting, bulletproof roofs.”

            class=''
            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

By Emma Peterson.

Industry experts break down how innovation and awareness are gaining polymeric roofing traction across the industry.

Recently, the polymeric roofing market has been growing in popularity. To talk about the momentum behind these products, Megan Ellsworth hosted Dylan Faust, Zach Stopyro and Thomas Knuckey for an episode of Roofing Road Trips®. Dylan is the technical service manager at EcoStar, Zach is the director of technical services and installation Westlake Royal Roofing Solutions, Thomas is the director of product management at Brava Roof Tile and all three of them are members of the Polymeric Exterior Products Association (PEPA).

When asked about the rise of polymeric products in the roofing industry, Zach started by sharing some background about the history of polymeric roofing products:

Years ago, when they first were released, many polymeric products were much higher priced than more mainstream products. The cost was what always drove people away from those products. And slowly that gap has closed a little more. Also, technology has gotten a lot better, building manufacturing has gotten a lot better, so polymeric is able to be made much better and much quicker, which helps close that gap.

In addition to the price of polymeric becoming much more competitive these days, there has also been a lot of work done to raise awareness of polymeric as an option. Dylan explained, “Polymeric has been around since the nineties, but a lot of people don't know about it and don’t understand how polymeric products are going to perform compared to more well-known materials, like slate, shake and concrete. So a lot of what we’re seeing as a rise in popularity right now is just a rise of awareness.”

And a lot of the rise in awareness of polymeric can be credited to the work of organizations like PEPA. Thomas explained:

PEPA’s work is three-tiered. First, it's focused on expanding the synthetic or composite market that we're all in through codes and testing standards and development. The second tier is education and workforce development; so really focused on preparing a workforce on what it takes to install and work with polymeric products. And then the third tier is fostering innovation and building community. And that’s focused on continuing to pick momentum up and really raising awareness so that this niche keeps moving into a mainstream solution.

The critical role of metal roofing in designing homes to withstand wildfires.

As we enter wildfire season, creating more resilient homes and structures is top of mind for many people across the country. To learn more about the role of roofing in designing buildings that can withstand fires, Karen Edwards hosted Tim Brown of Westlake Royal Building Products and Josh Smith of J.N. Davis Roofing for an episode of Roofing Road Trips®.

One of the biggest ways that flames spread during a wildfire is through embers getting carried on the wind to new areas – like the roof of a home. Tim elaborated:

The reality of wildfires today, like the Altadena and Pacific Palisades fires, is that they create a firestorm from high winds. And in the face of a firestorm, a classic asphalt shingle roof often starts lifting. And if those shingles lift, embers that are carried on the wind are able to get inside the sheathing of a roof. And from there, the home is just tinder.

The best way to avoid this is by using roofing materials that don’t let the embers enter the building envelope in the first place. Materials like Westlake’s Unified Steel Stone Coated Roofing. Tim explained, “Metal roofing locks on all four sides and something like stone coated steel will not allow embers to enter the structure. I'm not going to tell you that there are no homes with stone-coated steel roofs that burn, but usually it's due to a broken window or other ways. Not through the roof.”

The powerful protection of stone-coated steel roofing in the face of fire is something that Josh has seen firsthand:

We had a customer that we put a stone-coated steel roof on for back in 2015 or 2016. And that home’s in Altadena on top of the hill. And when the fire hit, their neighbor's house right above them was one of the first houses on the hillside that caught fire. And what’s really impressive is, even with wind blowing that fire towards our customer’s stone-coated steel roof, was that the steel profile of her roof was fine. Things like her aluminum gutters melted, and there was a 100 to 200 square foot section of the roof where the granular is burned off, but the roof itself was still there.

This is just one example of many cases where metal roofing has saved homes. In fact, Tim shared a bit about some studies Westlake has performed related to fire-resilience and their stone-coated steel roofing, sharing, “ We've got case studies where we'll do aerial photos in areas of the big fires that happened in Southern California, there will be 50 homes that survived and probably 35 of those homes have stone-coated steel roofs on them. And it really goes back to the fact that stone-coated steel stops the infiltration of embers much better than anything else.”

Listen to the whole conversation or Watch the episode to learn more about building roofs to withstand wildfires.

Learn about the positive impact a cool roof can have not only on your home, but your wallet, too.

As average temperatures and associated energy costs continue to rise, cool roofing options are seeing an increase in interest among homeowners and contractors alike. Cool roofing refers to roof products that are designed to reduce the amount of solar energy (heat) entering the home. Cool roofs do this by reflecting sunlight and releasing rising hot air from the peak of the structure. For comparison, Westlake Royal Building Products' Cool Roof Systems are known to reflect “as much as 53% of the sun’s solar energy compared to 10% for a typical asphalt shingle.” However, reflectance isn’t the only thing a cool roof can do!

By managing the solar energy entering a space with a cool roof system, contractors can achieve a more energy-efficient building envelope. An efficient building envelope not only makes the interior of the home more comfortable for homeowners, but according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, it can reduce peak cooling demand by 11% to 27%, saving homeowners a significant amount of money. These savings are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the advantages of installing a Westlake Royal Cool Roof System. Other benefits include:

Extended roof life: UV exposure is a common reason for premature roof aging. By reflecting UV rays as a part of reflecting solar energy, cool roofs can extend a roof’s service life.

Environmentally friendly: Cool roofs not only make the interior of a structure more comfortable; they also help lower atmospheric fossil fuels (like CO2) and reduce the impact of the Urban Heat Island effect.

Code compliance: As cities face rising issues like the UHI effect, they are enacting building and energy codes that specify the use of cooling solutions. Installing cool roofs is a great way to comply with or stay ahead of these evolving requirements.

In recognition of National Skilled Trades Day on May 6, Westlake Royal Building Products™ (“Westlake Royal”), a Westlake company (NYSE: WLK), supported a hands-on workforce development initiative at Huntley High School, outside of Chicago, providing students with real-world construction experience through the build of an outdoor classroom.

“With demand for skilled labor continuing to grow across the building and construction industry, it’s more important than ever to give students real, hands-on exposure to the trades,” said Steve Booz, vice president of marketing, Westlake Royal Building Products. “We’re proud to support the next generation by not only providing materials for this important classroom build, but by having our team on-site to share their expertise and help bring that learning to life.”

On Friday, May 8, the project, led by trades program instructor James Allen, brought together 23 students to construct a dedicated outdoor learning space on a donated 40-by-40-foot concrete slab. The classroom will serve as a long-term resource for future student-led construction projects, including potential partnerships with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity.

As part of its commitment to supporting skilled trades education and strengthening the future workforce, Westlake Royal donated a range of building materials for the project, including Unified Steel™ Stone Coated Roofing, Celect® Cellular Composite Siding, Versetta Stone® and Grove Collection™ trim.

In addition to product donations, Westlake Royal coordinated hands-on installation training sessions with its roofing, siding and stone technical teams, offering students the opportunity to gain practical experience across multiple product categories.

“This project represents years of growth for our program and a vision we’ve had from the start — to create a dedicated space for hands-on learning,” said James Allen, trades program instructor at Huntley High School. “What began as a pipe dream has become a true collaboration with industry partners like Westlake Royal Building Products. Our students are building something that will serve future classes while gaining skills they’ll carry into careers, college and beyond.”

14 months after devastating fires swept through the Pacific Palisades and Altadena areas, communities are building back with stronger, more fire-resilient materials.

Recently, Karen Edwards sat down with Tim Brown of Westlake Royal Building Products and Josh Smith of J.N. Davis Roofing for a Roofing Road Trips® conversation all about the rebuilding efforts in response to the 2025 Southern California wildfires.

Back in January 2025, Josh was in the impacted area the day after the fire, trying to find ways to help. He explained, “I went up there to go check on some customers that we had done roofs for just a couple of weeks prior. We couldn't get a hold of them, so me and my mom ended up hopping in the truck and just going up and checking on everyone.” Tim was also on the ground shortly after the fires. He shared a bit of what he saw, saying, “I was...I was completely shocked at the level of devastation that took place. The city of Altadena was gone, all the businesses to all the residences. I've been doing this a long time and been around a lot of Southern California wildfires and never seen anything like this.”

Now, about 14 months later, both Josh and Tim are still heavily involved in the area, specifically trying to help the affected communities rebuild stronger. And a key part of rebuilding stronger is creating more fire-resistant structures – which metal roofing plays a huge part in. Tim explained, “Metal has gained a reputation of being the most fire resilient product on the market today, and it’s really incredible seeing how many people in these communities are researching and requesting metal.”

Josh can attest to this demand for the fire-resistant metal firsthand, “We’ve been working to educate people on their options, cause a lot of them will ask for standing seam, see the price tag and hesitate because it’s a lot for a look they don’t love. And I’m like, ‘Okay, but that’s not your only option.’” The other option that Josh has been showing to a lot of his customers? Westlake’s Unified Steel Stone Coated Roofing.

Tim shared a bit about this product:

I always say Unified Steel is the best kept secret of roofing. And I say that because this type of roofing emulates clay tile, emulates capri tile, wood shake, etc. A lot of people hesitate to get metal roofs because they don’t want their home to look commercial or look like a barn. But what they don’t realize is that they can get the benefits of metal and the look of a traditional premium roof with Unified Steel.

With this perfect combination of high-performance, especially in the face of disasters like fires, as well as stunning aesthetics, it’s no wonder that Josh and his team have been installing a lot of Unified Steel as they help rebuild in the aftermath of the 2025 Southern California fires.

Listen to the podcast or Watch the recording to learn more about Unified Steel roofing and the role it is playing in rebuilding stronger communities.
