I go to California to take my Law and Business examine for new roofing license over there on Tuesday. Spent the whole week-end studying. We have a Rule of Reciprocity with them and I don't have to take the trades test. Wish me luck. Colorado will be soon. Recently got licensed in Montana and Missouri, will be looking at Illinois. Registered in Texas since 2009. All of you lurkers out there, I will be looking for some top notch managers and salesmen in the next 12 months. Permanent locations. Don't mean to to sound like a classified as Im not hiring right at this moment but it coming soon and then I'll buy some space. Just putting out feelers right now. Do you think the economy is ready for growth?

i wish i could say yes but the truth is the bahamas is just like your turks and caicos experience. i ran from tyranny and a babylonian empire so my bad days here are still so sweet to me cause my bredren and i are free, for now. i found my home but i still haven't met another american who is happy here who isn't extremely wealthy. if you bring your own money you can have whatever you want but it's hard to make a living here. the builders look at a white man like he's water in a desert but the workers sit down for that same white man. me, i fit in so well here for the same reasons i was completely incompatable there. i'm white enough for the builders yet black enough to lead the workers, it's a formula mon! i'd be happy to show you around if you were ever to come down though. the best vacation you could ever have would be staniel cay. i'll be there for the month of november if you wanna come down. tuna, dolphin (mahi), grouper, red snapper and even marlin from the boat plus we spear. people don't panic when storms come around. things are well built here cause we don't have a building code. you from michigan?

Os, as I said, Ive, been lurking, I keep reading, don't have a lot to offer so I was keeping my mouth(fingers)quiet. You might hear a little more from me. Soldierboy, That is real good thinking you,re doing when you should be sleeping. We have thought some about that but we dont necessarily like the idea of a partner. On the other hand we dont want to be a storm chaser's and we despise the illegals as much as anyone. I am setting up licenses in few states and will be looking for individuals who can sell, supervise and run the office until it becomes self supporting with a full staff. Then we will grow it from there with referrals and backed up with some advertising. I am not chasing nothing. I'll come in and earn my dime. On the other hand, it could be done much quicker if I give or take a piece of someones existing pie and teach them the "go get-em sales" techniques we use. PS. Go Blue. wish us luck at the Dallas dome. LOL bdub, where the hell do you hide when the hurricanes come? If I gave it all up, could I provide for myself and wife down there

Rockydog, Why don't you look for companies that are already set up and show that owner how to work a storm legally, legitimately and the way that works. All I have seen from big companies that come in and work storms around us is illegals, immoral and unethical business practices. Be a coach of a sort to those local companies and get a piece of their pie. Just a thought late at night.

I'm not big business but I have big aspirations. I dream big. I would like to fish and see the reel deel. My son had his honeymoon on the turks and very uncomfortable. It was off-season, construction going on at resort. Too many locals trying to pick up on his bride. As the song goes, If you want to be happy for the rest of you life, get a ugly girl to marry you. I'll call you when I come

tings here are great. and i don't have to worry about big business coming here either. we still have a free market and no one can handle the issues we run into here. i really don't do the beaches here in nassau they're covered wit tourists. i go down to staniel cay or turks and caicos when i fish and beach. but i love it anyway. i wish you all the best. please look me up if you're coming down i can get you out da tourist traps and show you da reel deel!

lets see, skilled trades are all but dead. freedom is illegal. consumers are more ignorant than ever....huh sounds like the perfect situation for what you are planning. that type of "growth" is all that is happening and it will not stop. capitalize, monopolize mon! it's the american way

Many good points, wywoody. I'll try to cover them. Though not exactly buckshot, I can understand someone seeing a loose pattern there. And to be quite honest the ion of Montana and Missouri were random, the process was simple and I really wanted to get to Missouri and help as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Right! Storm chasing! Well I haven't made it to Missouri yet, and I've had my chances. What I am trying to do is get licensed everywhere, whether or not I go there immediately. I would like the longevity of the company being setup already, so when I walk into someones home I can tell them I've been here for ex amount of months or years, whichever the case. When I go, I want to open a permanent office/shop/yard. In the beginning I will have to do some advertising as, of course, I will not have any referrals or repeat clients in those areas to use. It is not my intent to storm chase, but if I setup a permanent shop and a storm happens, I'd would be a fool not to avail my self of the opportunities at hand. Right? I am not a firm believer in running demographics. The bigger the population area the bettter the chances. I dont care what the competion does or their history. There is plenty of work out there for salespeople who are willing to work hard and make alot of friends and money. It's really up to the salespeople and if I can give them a program that makes them want to help people, then they'll sell alot of work. Many places you can not walk in and start selling, legally. You must have a license, Ins. and Workers comp. Over half of the states require it. The other half request you sign up with the local jurisdictions and follow their guidelines. Once the sales start then I will hire local crews and local supervision. The last thing I want to do is pay for food and lodging when I can help the community by hiring local. When I get close to opening I will run the appropiate help wanted ads so I am prepared. I do some work in Utah now but not enough to hire a crew so I send them from AZ. I have some resorts and property managers in Cal. there are just waiting for my final paperwork and I'll have a stockpile of work and crews are readily available. I don't know if I want to do work in Texas, but maybe. The bottom line is, is that I can afford to get the other states now, sit on them if I have to,probably less than 10 in the next 12-18 months, create some work and build from there. Risky, yes? I am willing to go for it. As far as the sales program. I've had one fluke year, 2011 hail storm. Every other year in the past ten has been tremendous growth on it's own merit, except 2009 which was the same for 2008 ..and I'live in the middle of the desert that doesnt get many storms or rain. If I can do it here, I know I can do it where it does rain as long as I apply the same sales program. Boasting here, sorry. 3 years in a row INC. magazine's Fastest Growing Companies in the Nation. 2007 ranked 146 and 2008 was 743. That's any kind of company, not just roofing. I know I probably didnt answer evrything, but hey, I'm an open book, fire away, I'll answer what I can. I love this economy. My custom home market dropped 80% in 2008. It looks like it might start heating up again.

TomB, I should have ended my last post like you ended your first post, with a :P . Join the Hero's and do something about what you're preaching about. Tico may have plenty of rhetoric, but he certainly seems to have a mission and purpose.

Regardless of what anyone thinks, I will continue to hire Veterans, Americans, documented workers, physically impaired, blacks, whites, mexicans as well as other documented workers such as Canadians, Italians, etc: and my fellow Native Americans( I'am Pottowattimi). My granfather's grandmother was full. I feel I'll Hear about that. I will also continue to give in the communities that I work in. The women, the children, homeless, less fortunate and I'm sure some drug addicts and alcoholics)which I was for 18 years. Probably still am but haven't drank in 20 years. If you guys and dolls don't mind I'll continue to post my crap thru my veiled naivety and be that spark or lighting rod for others to vent about or just a causal chat.

Tico.....I know, off the subject, but had to add....Spanish is a major, (if not THE), portion of our puiblic elementary school cirriculum here....It's absolutely obsurd....To heck with math, english, & Amer. history...Oh, but they know all about Mexican history...and some goofy "Mexican" way of math calculating, (a "lattice" sytem, or something?)...pardon my ignorance.

One day, my 4th grader came home & told me how little Hector had matter-of-factly informed the class, that he didn't have to participate in the pledge of allegience, because he was "Mexican"....

The U.S. is working more & more towards emulationg Mexico....The gap btwn the wealthy and worker is continually widening....They should be careful of what they wish for....

Rocky; I've found several "hero's" on this site; Those (IMHO), that have a good handle on the reality of situation and aren't afraid, as well as have the ability to articualte to the rest of us.....I can only "know you" from the informatiom you've put forth....Apologies for my brashness; To be brutally honest; My take is that your full of crap or a bit naive, or a bit of both.....

"...My comment could be for the site lurker that is guilty of the points raised...."

That's the deal. The guy who can't keep things shiny without black market funds juicing his wallet. Rocky's a good lightning rod because he's moving and there's a lot of pent-up electricity looking to ground, but that's the only reason.

I walk every job because I'm on every job and my sympathies are squarely in tico's circle of passion, but I have respect for organizations that want to grow beyond my own vision. Very guarded respect. Corporations are fictitious entities, by definition, and it takes a lot of work and a lot of heart to put flesh and soul into a fictitious entity.

Tico, I am honestly glad you seen the light and cleared your head enough to help other s that are in in a similar situation. They need help, too. Hopefully we all give in one form or another. You in your way is no better than my way, nor is mine better than yours and why you would want to turn it into my having an ulterior motive, I don't understand. and where the heck do you and Tomb get off ripping for hiring illegals, when from the beginning, I've been on this forum for about 8 months, I have done nothing but preach about not hiring them or unlicensed subs and storm chasers. Are my feelings hurt, hell no. I'm irriatated that both of you are running your ideas and impressions upon the rest of us and you don't know a damn thing about who you talking about. Get to know me first. TomB Im glad you found a hero.
