6-Story Building in Hurricane-Prone City Gets New Roof

High-performing products were selected to ensure the roof will withstand future tropical storms and hurricanes.

The six-story oceanfront condominium complex, Flores De La Playa was one of many buildings damaged by Hurricane Irma. Located in Satellite Beach, Florida, this complex offers visitors direct beach access and a cozy stay in one of Florida’s prettiest cities. In September of 2017, Hurricane Irma made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane and devastated parts of Florida. It was one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded. 

When selecting a product to re-roof the building after the storm, it was important to select a product that would be able to withstand the impact of future tropical storms and hurricanes. The system that was selected included a base ply of ELASTOPHENE® SP 3.0 with 350 PSI lightweight concrete applied on top and SOPRALENE® 180 PS 3.0 with a cap sheet of SOPRALENE Flam 180 FR GR. To adhere the base and cap ply together, COLPLY® EF Ribbon Applied was selected. COLPLY EF Ribbon Applied was the perfect solution for this project due to its superior adhesion qualities and that it offered material cost and labor savings qualities.

The single-component adhesive can be applied in multiple bead or in a single bead and is extremely user friendly.
