A Day in the Life of a WTI/Tremco Technician

In this series, we’ve been learning more about the people who work at Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc and Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance.

So far, we’ve learned that the company has a great culture of caring and people who work there tend to thrive. Let’s see what a day in the life for a field tech looks like by dropping in on Christopher Gallegos, Sr. and Corey Hernandez.

Both had to say that there is a lot they love about their jobs. Christopher enjoys that he is always out in the open and never stays at any jobsite for an extended period of time. He also appreciates that he can work with crews to solve problems and help bring the job to completion. Corey enjoys being part of a team that works together to achieve a goal but what he loves most is seeing the finished product and leaving the job site better than it was when he arrived.

Christopher said he got into roofing when he was young. “I started out at a young age just looking for work and came across the roofing industry. What makes me stay are the guys I work with, the satisfying work I can walk away from when completed, and the company I work for is a great one to be a part of,” he said.

Corey was brought in by someone else. “My foreman, Fernando Marin, brought the opportunity to my attention. I stay because of all the opportunities this company provides for its employees; in my eyes this company does a great job of taking care of us so we can take care of our families,” he explained.

As we all know, there is no typical day in roofing – every job is different – but they tried to provide a look at what a typical day might look like. It’s starts for Christopher with a 4:15 a.m. wakeup and check on emails. After that he heads over to the job site to review the safety and job agenda, meet with the site customer and get the work started. Throughout the day, he’s been answering emails and phone calls before leaving about 3:30 p.m. to head back home. Corey agrees that there is no typical day. He’s in the Midwest region, facing four seasons a year with weather varying every day. He says that he shows up for work each day ready to do his job duties to the best of his ability.

Both love their jobs but that doesn’t mean they don’t face challenges at work too. Corey said that spontaneous schedule changes can be a challenge, but everyone works together to make it work. Christopher said that managing crews at multiple locations and making sure everyone is on the same page can be tough, especially in his area of southern California.

They agree that they really enjoy working for Tremco/WTI. Christopher for the opportunities he’s been given: “Travel to work in different states such as Washington, Oklahoma, Hawaii and beyond. To work with the guys I work with now, and the guys I worked with in the past. Be able to work hand in hand with sales reps is very informative, the support from our leaders to supply me with tools, equipment, and training is more than I’ve ever received from your ordinary roofing company,” he said.

Corey said he loves, “The sense of pride this job gives me and the people I have met in the short time of being employed.”
