Achieving Sustainable Residential Goals With S-5!

S-5! solar mounting solutions helped a university architectural class’s residential project achieve LEED® certification with ease! 

As solar panels become a more accessible and popular energy source for residential projects, it’s become imperative to find an attachment option that both complements the aesthetics of the structure and provides ample support for securing the panels without damaging the roof. S-5!’s PVKIT mounting solution makes it possible to properly secure solar panel systems to metal roofs without damaging the roof and isn’t susceptible to decay over time.  

When students participating in Studio 804, a graduate architectural program at the University of Kansas, set a goal of creating a residential project that operated on the most sustainable energy sources possible, they needed a proper attachment product for their solar panels that would both blend with the exterior aesthetics of the modern home while also providing a great deal of support and durability. The solution? S-5!’s PVKIT direct-attach solar mounting solution.  

With the use of the PVKIT mounting attachments, the students were able to properly secure the solar panel system to the roof of the home, reducing the structure’s overall electricity consumption by nearly 85%, which had a huge impact in lowering the amount of electricity that the home was using. This project was a major accomplishment for the students, as the home was granted LEED Platinum certification, which is the highest certification level to be granted under the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) standards. 

Studio 804’s project, titled the 432 Indiana Street House, was the 16th LEED Platinum certified project completed by the program. The project also included various other products from the S-5! brand, like the ColorGard, which aids in preventing any potential snow avalanches during the winter from potentially causing harm to those who walk below.
