Committed to sharing the International Roofing Expo and taking you onto the tradeshow floor so you can enjoy the show from anywhere, RoofersCoffeeShop®’s Heidi J. Ellsworth meets with Joel Shealey, the VP of operations for Bitec at IRE for an interview.
Joel tells Heidi he is happy to celebrate the company’s 35th year as “Bitec 2.0.” “There's a lot of rebranding work that's going on. We're trying to make a little bit of a new Bitec 2.0 at this point,” Joel tells Heidi. IRE is the first show the new Bitec booth makes an appearance. Additionally, Bitec is rolling out a new website.
Heidi and Joel discuss what it is like to be in a family business. Joel’s father, Bruce Shealey, was the former president of Bitec for 42 years. Joel has been with Bitec for almost two years and his leadership at the company has BiTec looking to the future and turning more to digital strategies.
Joel and Heidi talk about the recent material shortages and the ways Bitec is working to maintain material availability. “We [have availability],” says Joel. “We've had a few periods where we've had to stretch out a few weeks, but we've never met what's been the industry norm this year.”
In a year where more people are looking into alternative products, Bitec has thrived off of contractors finding their system as quality. “One thing that we've really stressed is we've maintained our quality. So, throughout the years, some others have elected to, to put a little more filler in to cheapen the product,” says Joel. “If you get a roll of our stuff, you'll see that it's what it was when it was developed and what it should be even today.”
