Building science takes center stage at ICAA 2026

A special educational session will help insulation professionals better understand condensation control, hybrid assemblies and code requirements.

Moisture management remains a critical consideration in modern construction, particularly when insulation assemblies combine materials with different air and vapor properties. At Insulation Contractors Association of America (ICAA)'s 2026 show, professionals can explore these challenges during a special “Cup o’ Joe” educational session focused on controlling risk in hybrid insulation assemblies. The session is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Garden Court at the Renaissance Dallas Addison Hotel. Breakfast is included and continuing education credits from the American Institute of Architects and Building Performance Institute are available. 

About the talk

Building scientist Joe Lstiburek will present “Moisture Happens: Controlling Risk in Hybrid Insulation Assemblies.” The program will examine how and why condensation failures occur, along with ways proper design and installation can help avoid costly liabilities. Attendees will also learn about insulation systems that combine air-permeable and air-impermeable materials, with particular attention given to airflow reduction, R-value requirements, air control and vapor management. It takes place before the trade show opens, giving attendees an opportunity to begin the day with practical, code-focused building science education. 

Beyond a single session

ICAA 2026 runs September 16-19 in Dallas, Texas. The association says it has championed the needs of insulation contractors for nearly 50 years through offerings that include its trade show and educational programs. The 2026 event also features an exhibitor showcase and the annual ICAA Golf Outing at Cowboys Golf Club.
