This was the first year for the new roofing charity program called Every Shingle Heart.

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida-based Reliant Roofing launched its Every Shingle Heart program this year to provide a free roof to a family in need. CEO Sean Shapiro told Roofing Contractor magazine, “We are thrilled to introduce our first annual Every Shingle Heart initiative. With hurricane season upon us, we’re reminded of the importance of having a strong, safe roof. We look forward to finding a family whose life would be greatly improved by receiving a brand new, high-quality roof.”

The original plan was to find three finalists and allow the public to vote on who should receive the roof. The company was so touched by the stories of their three finalists that they ended up awarding a free roof to all three families.

News4 JAX covered the story and was there when the finalists were told that they were all receiving a roof.  Their roof had all sustained damage from Hurricane Matthew in 2016. The winners included Ruby McMullen, who was close to losing her home because of the significant roof damage, Angie Billings, a breast cancer survivor who also recently lost her fiancé, and Tina Velazquez, a disabled army veteran who moved to the area to care for her ailing mother.

Cameron Shouppe, president of Reliant Roofing, told the news station that it was clear the three families needed help badly. "As soon as I saw their reaction I knew we found the right people," Shouppe said. "This was a major item causing stress and grief in their life and this was going to make a huge difference for them."

The company plans to continue the program each year with the hope to expand and collaborate with other companies.
