Cool roof trends for 2024 highlighted at CRRC annual meeting

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Megan Ellsworth sat down with Stuart Ruis, vice president of R&D services and chair of the CRRC Board of Directors (CRRC) and Jeffrey Steuben, executive director of the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), to discuss the upcoming trends and innovations in the cool roofs sector. After the 2024 CRRC annual meeting, the discussion provided insight into the benefits and opportunities that the meeting offered. 

The CRRC’s annual meeting, a significant event for those involved in the roofing industry, took place at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The venue itself, known for its stunning views of the Vegas skyline, promised a refreshing and engaging environment for attendees. As Stuart mentioned, "It should be a great meeting space. A lot of times we get stuck in four walls and feel trapped a little bit, but I feel like this year's venue is going to be something really special.” 

One of the highlights of the meeting is the diverse lineup of guest speakers who shared their insights on the latest technologies and industry initiatives in cool surfaces. Jeffrey provided a sneak peek into the exciting agenda: "We have Ryan Stevens from the city of Phoenix talking about the cool pavement pilot program, Dr. Ray Fernando from Cal Poly discussing coating formulation and Mancy Console and Dr. David Fork from Google Research presenting their cool roof tool.” 

Networking opportunities abound at the annual meeting, providing a more intimate setting for professionals to connect and exchange ideas. "It's a smaller industry so it's a little bit more intimate. You get a little bit more opportunity to meet some people that are really passionate about their involvement with the CRRC,” Ruis noted.

As Ruis succinctly put it, "We really try to give everyone some good information to inform them what the CRRC is doing to achieve our strategic objectives and how we can all help the industry, and our respective businesses move forward.”
