Nurses and healthcare providers have been at the frontline of fighting this coronavirus pandemic. They protected us in the battle against a largely unknown and extremely contagious virus all throughout 2020, but who was protecting and caring for them?
It was a normal day and Diane Guzicki was making sure her patients were taken care of. While she might not treat patients, she is integral to the hospital, providing them with care. Diane works to prepare rooms for patients, cleaning and disinfecting the room throughout so it is ready for them.
“Without Diane and environmental services associates, the hospital can’t function," said Director of Environmental Services Matt Curry in an interview with WSBT 22.
Having stood at the frontline of COVID-19 for the past year, it is no wonder that Diane couldn't find the time to care for herself during the unprecedented challenges of the past year.
"Diane just gives it her all and is very patient, focused and wants the best for the patients," said Matt. Diane’s old roof had many damaged shingles and needed to be replaced, an expense that could cost up to $15,000. Luckily, Diane won a free roof from a raffle held by A&M Home Services.
"She’s in here giving her all at work and we can take care of that stress for her at her house that is a critical area she needed to get done," said owner of A&M Home Services Michael Alexander.
"Now that everybody's starting to get back into the swing of things, the people who were on the front needed to be recognized," said Michael. "So, we felt that in our situation, we could do that and give back to the people who have been in the depths of everything."
A&M says they are going to continue trying to offer free roofs to people like Diane who deserve to be thanked for their efforts. As for Diane, she will have her new roof by the end of the summer.
"[I've] had some difficulties and this is wonderful to know that there’s somebody out there to do something so great," said Diane. "Someone is looking out for me somewhere. It’s just awesome."
It’s fitting that someone who has dedicated her life to protecting and caring for others receives a roof and safe place of her own.
