Feel Pride! Get Certified!

The NRCA’s ProCertification program is re-establishing quality standards for the whole roofing industry. 

Jared Ribble is a father of four, a tennis coach and a drummer at his church. As if he isn’t busy enough, Jared also oversees the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) ProCertification program. In Season 4, Episode 41 of Roofing Road Trips, Heidi travels to Chicago to ask Jared more about the program. ProCertification is an assessment that roofers take to prove they’re qualified to perform installations. It “sets the bar” for professionalism in the roofing industry according to Jared. 

Most trade industries have a certification program, but it is only recently that the roofing industry has had anything like this. 

“We are not saying that the roofing installers that we have out on the roofs today are not professional and not quality, but there is a perception.” 

The goal of ProCertification is to elevate that perception. The NRCA has a goal to create transparency with consumers. This means that anytime a person chooses to have someone work on their roof, there are clear-cut requirements that the roofer needs to meet.  

“If the installers are not of this caliber, then they shouldn’t be on your roof,” Jared explains. 

Thus far, ProCertification has been highly successful. People all over the country are downloading the certification assessment from the NRCA website. It’s pervading the entire industry. There is even a metal-specific assessment, allowing workers in metal to be recognized for their skills. 

“This is an honor to them, not a punishment,” emphasizes Jared. When roofers in the industry are recognized for their skills, the quality of the whole industry increases. Workers who get certified feel valued, compelling them to do more quality work.
