Get the Best of Both Worlds With This Membrane

The DoubleBond membrane can self-seal around punctures around nails, staples and screws while maintaining a watertight seal.

In many construction applications, there is a need for a two-sided adhesive membrane to secure two surfaces together. Typically, gasketing material is used in conjunction with adhesive compounds or sealants to achieve a bond on both sides. However, if a screw or other type of fastener is required, the gasketing material will not self-seal creating a potential leak point. 

DoubleBond™, manufactured by MFM Building Products, is a non-reinforced, pressure sensitive double-faced tape where both sides of the membrane contain a rubberized asphalt adhesive system. Both surfaces are protected by a removeable release liner. The key to DoubleBond is that the membrane self-seals around punctures such as nails, staples or screws to provide a watertight seal. 

DoubleBond is not designed for prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and should be covered as soon as possible. Install the tape where the ambient air and surface temperatures are at or above 45°F (7.2°C). The tape is designed so that each side of the membrane is applied independently to dry and smooth surfaces. Weathered materials and masonry need to be primed prior to installation to ensure a good bond.  

Start by removing one side of the release liner and applying DoubleBond directly to the surface. With the top release liner still in place, roll the membrane firmly with a hand roller to ensure good adhesion. Do not leave DoubleBond uncovered once the release liner has been removed. 

DoubleBond is 35 mils and comes in roll sizes of 4” and 6” widths by 50’ lengths, and are packaged in durable cartons. Always leave the material in the original carton and store in a dry environment where the temperature does not exceed 100°F (38°C).
