The Island House structure has historic significance and was once connected to one of the original residents of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Today, the structure serves as a private residence. Due to the aesthetics of the island, the homeowner wanted a roof replacement with a slate-like appearance to balance the copper additions.
Weatherguard Roofing, a roofing contractor known for quality craftsmanship and restoration, was selected to take on this distinctive residential project. The finished project went on to win the Silver Award in the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) 2022 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards Program.
This project required a roofing solution that provided versatility and artistry, making asphalt the clear choice. The roof selection was driven by the desire to have all materials harmonize with the project area. A roof replacement with a slate-like appearance was specified to complement the copper highlights. In addition, the homeowner needed the durability and strength of asphalt shingle construction.
Weatherguard Roofing selected GAF Slateline Shingles for the roof replacement to meet the design requirements, as well as for the algae StainGuard protection and Class A fire rating. GAF Slateline Shingles are designer shingles that feature bold shadow lines and tapered cut-outs that create the look of slate. The residential roofing system represents affordable luxury and peak performance.
When it comes to selecting a roofing system, asphalt shingles continue to raise beauty standards and provide performance benefits. The contractor on this project utilized asphalt shingles to protect the home against high winds and environmental challenges that impact the Hilton Head Island area.
The roofing expertise illustrated by the Island House was top-notch. Weatherguard Roofing provided the homeowner with a reliable, long-lasting roofing system that adds a touch of elegance. Complementing nicely with the copper embellishments, the slate-like roof affords a classic but bold appearance to the private residence. This project illustrates how the reliability of asphalt shingles to protect structures from the elements can be integrated with unique design requirements to produce exquisite architectural finishes.
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) honored Weatherguard Roofing with the 2022 Silver Award in the Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards Program. This program recognizes low and steep-slope asphalt roofing projects across North America based on four categories: Reasons for Selecting Asphalt, Performance, Beauty and Distinction. ARMA received over 80 submissions this year, which were judged by a panel of industry experts and members of the trade media.
Weatherguard Roofing is proud of this project and considers the Island House the pinnacle of its portfolio. This magnificent project demonstrates the beauty, affordability and reliability of residential asphalt roofing systems.
