Low-Slope Roofing Mistake No. 2: Not Cleaning the Membrane

When patching a single-ply membrane, whether it’s to reinforce or repair, step one should always be cleaning the surface. Patches welded to a dirty membrane will tend to pull up, creating a leak risk. 

GAF Senior Commercial Training Specialists Dave Scott and Wally Brown share tips on preparing TPO for repair in this episode of Roofing it Right with Dave and Wally. In this segment of their Roofing it Right miniseries on the Top Ten Mistakes in Low Slope Roofing, the two experienced pros tackle the importance of restoring the sheet’s bright white appearance to help get the best possible weld.  

Their pro tips include cleaning the membrane with water, a scrubbing pad, non-abrasive household cleaner, and Everguard TPO Seam cleaner.
