Many hands make easy work: The power of partnerships

An extensive network of support means that coatings education and quality products are closer than ever. 

In this episode of CoatingsCast™, Timothy (Tim) Klindt from UNIFLEX stopped by to talk to Karen Edwards about the coatings world. Roof coatings are a great option to repair a roof rather than have to pay for an entire reroof and can make existing systems more energy efficient. But not every roof is a viable option for roof coatings. Tim explained, “Not every roof out there is a coatings option. I think that people are starting to understand that if we have a good working roof assembly to begin with and we're mitigating moisture and taking care of the issues before the coating's installed and using them as a restoration system, they're a great option.” 

Figuring out whether a roof is good for coatings can be a challenge. Tim points to a traditional lack of education and training about coatings in the industry as a main barrier to making these assessments. But UNIFLEX is working to change that with their programs in partnership with Sherwin-Williams. Tim shared, “We have programs within the Sherwin-Williams organization to help with moisture surveys. We spend time in the field and we have local rep support.”  

In addition to creating spaces for people to come to them, they reach out to their customers and invite them to their education program, UNIFLEX University. There are seven locations across the United States that aim to help customers apply and install coatings properly. Tim added, “We’re organized around UNIFLEX regional managers and our Sherwin-Williams districts to bring in the local reps, customers in central locations located within each of the regions, so that we have an opportunity to sit down with all those customers collectively and help them.” 

This network, which is made possible through UNIFLEX’s partnership with Sherwin-Williams not only allows for extensive training opportunities, but it also creates a “one-stop shop” for coating contractors to get quality products. Tim explained, “Sherwin-Williams owns quite a few different manufacturing lines of applicators. So when you say one-stop shop, that's what Sherwin-Williams is... In every market, every city always, there's always a Sherwin-Williams store and always a Sherwin-Williams sales rep there to support you in the field.” And at those Sherwin-Williams locations, you can get everything you need for a coatings project, from, caulks, sealants and patches to safety equipment and application tools.
