Medical Bills and a 20-Year-Old Roof Leave Veteran in a Tough Position

Tadlock Roofing provides retired Army veteran with a new roof.

In Eustis, Florida, retired Army veteran Edwin J. Seda was in dire need of a roof.  Having served 20 years in the army, Seda shared with FOX35 Orlando, “I would do it again if I have the chance.”

His roof had also seen a lot in 20 years, withstanding all Mother Nature threw at it.  However, the insurance company threatened to end his homeowner's coverage. Seda needed a new roof.   However, with all of his medical bills, a roof wasn’t in his budget. “I broke my hip twice...I broke my knee three times.  And I have more bills than what I can afford,” Sera told FOX35 Orlando. Using a walker and the help of a physical therapist, he still manages to persevere.  

Thomas Catalano, branch manager at Tadlock Roofing in Florida, shared with FOX35 Orlando, “Our consultant after meeting with him was so touched by his story and just who he was and his personality that we really wanted to dig in and see if there was a way to help him.”

The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project is responsible for ensuring Seda had a new, secure roof over his head.  The purpose of this project is to aid and, “...give back to hundreds of U.S. military veterans by replacing one of the most important parts of their property,” reported FOX35 Orlando.

All materials were donated, as well as the worker's time and labor.  Catalano told FOX35, “He’s a very deserving man.” Seda was extremely grateful for the time and effort Tadlock put into replacing his roof.  He told FOX35, “Makes me feel like crying...but a good soldier never cries.”

This isn’t the first time Tadlock Roofing has been recognized for their good deeds!  Earlier this year, Tadlock was recognized by Leon County Schools for their partnership in eliminating food deserts.  Leon County is ranked fourth in the state of Florida for food insecurity. Tadlock donated $2,000 along with 2,000 community-funded food items to the high school’s food bank.  Last year, Tadlock Roofing helped combat food insecurity in Leon County, Florida.  Two supermarkets closed, leaving thousands of people without easy access to healthy foods.  In 2017, Tadlock Roofing partnered with Habitat for Humanity in donating a roof to a family in need.

Tadlock’s commitment to others and desire to help those in need is much appreciated.  Whether it’s a veteran in debt from medical bills and in need of a roof or students who are facing food deserts, Tadlock is ready to step in and help in whatever way they can.
