If you haven’t heard of Sentry Building Innovations, they are one of the few manufacturers of synthetic roofing underlayments and weather-resistant barriers that makes their own products – Roofnado™, Sahara™, and Spyder®. What makes these products so special? In the words of Christopher Vick, Sentry’s USA national sales director, “We didn’t reinvent the wheel with our products, we just invented things that make it work better.” To learn more about what this means, we hosted Christopher for an interview.
Our conversation opened with Christopher sharing some background information on Sentry as a company:
Sentry Building Innovations is our branded label and, while our plants are not under the same name, they’re all owned and operated under the same umbrella and team. And that really makes us unique, pretty much everybody else in this market space [of underlayments and weather barriers] is some form of hybrid where they might own their whole line but they don’t own the actual manufacturing process.
By owning the entire process, Sentry has been able to develop, test and refine their products until they are the best they can be. As Christopher put it, “We're changing the game when it comes to the control. We truly offer a complete package and roofing contractors can use our products and trust that they will outperform everybody else at that price point because of how much care was put into the design and manufacturing of it.”
Diving into the specific products that Sentry provides, Sahara is a breathable weather resistive barrier, Spyder is a self-adhered roofing underlayment designed for sloped roofs and Roofnado is Sentry’s iconic water-control layer. Within the Roofnado underlayment line, Sentry offers everything from high-traction options (AnchorDeck™) to high temperature self-adhered products (LapLock™).
When we asked Christopher about what makes these products stand out, his answer was simple: “Our products outperform everyone else's product because in every part of manufacturing, our team is thinking about their experience and asking, ‘Hey, does it walk better? Does it install easily? Does it perform correctly?’ Our focus is on making every single piece of that product with the roofing contractor in mind and it shows in how well our products perform.”
