Project Profile: Texas Roof Management Restores St. Marks School Campus

Tornado restoration project in Dallas, Texas shows the importance of doing the little and simple things perfectly. 

Description - Replacement of over 270,000 square feet of copper standing seam roofing, replacement of 11,500 square feet of Siplast 2 ply ModBit roofing, installation of new decking and insulation, installation of new gutters and downspouts.  

When the F3 tornado hit North Dallas in late October 2019, nine out of the 11 buildings on the St. Mark’s campus were severely damaged. The storms completely destroyed Hicks Gym, which was eventually demolished, and damaged the roofs, windows and brick facades of many other buildings.  

Just hours after the storm cleared, Texas Roof Management crews were on-site performing emergency repairs to keep the campus watertight in light of a forecast of heavy storms only four days after the tornado. Emergency repairs were successful, and in January, the company was contracted to reroof all nine destroyed roofing systems on the campus. The entire project was completed in less than a year.  

“The attention and care with which we serve our clients on a day-to-day basis has a huge impact on potential future work. If we hadn’t completed a very successful new construction project for St. Mark’s in 2018, or if our crews weren’t as responsive and proactive in addressing the emergency repairs immediately after the storm, we may have never had the opportunity to complete this project. This project drove home the importance of doing the little and simple things perfectly,” said Evan Hicks. 

“While campus closure has been difficult for our school community, we’ve made significant progress on tornado recovery efforts across the campus,” said David W. Dini, Eugene McDermott Headmaster.
