Following are details about the webinars. Please note: The May 8 webinar is free for members and nonmembers.
May 4: The Situation With Steel Roof Decks (Noon-1 p.m. CDT) During recent years, the Steel Deck Institute and FM Global and FM Approvals have revised their guidelines for designing steel roof decks to resist wind uplift. Revisions include acknowledgement that nonuniform, linear concentrated uplift loading patterns, such as those applied by seam-fastened, mechanically attached single-ply membrane roof systems, have a different loading result than uniform uplift loading. During this one-hour webinar, Mark Graham, NRCA's vice president of technical services, will review the revisions applicable to steel roof decks and recommend ways to address steel roof decks in new construction and reroofing situations.
May 8: OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down Webinar (Noon-1 p.m. CDT) Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers. As part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) National Safety Stand-Down May 8-12 to prevent falls in construction, during this free one-hour webinar, Rich Trewyn, an NRCA director of enterprise risk management, will discuss the hazards present after a worker has fallen from a roof and his or her personal fall-arrest system has deployed or activated. Trewyn will share information regarding the health hazards that pose serious risks to a worker suspended from a body harness and the steps the worker may be able to take to reduce or eliminate those risks, among other topics.
May 11: Women Who are Changing the Face of Roofing Businesses (1-2 p.m. CDT) During this one-hour webinar, a panel of roofing professionals will discuss various career opportunities for women in the roofing industry. Panelists will share their career experiences, as well as strategies for recruiting, training and empowering women on roofing-oriented career paths. The panel will be moderated by National Women in Roofing Chairperson Heidi J. Ellsworth and will include Jennifer Stone, president of Nations Roof, Kent, Wash.; Lee Lipniskis, finance manager for Core Contractors Roofing Systems, Denver; and Michelle Boykin, service manager for Rackley Roofing Co. Inc., Carthage, Tenn.
