For years, roofing contractors have relied on cutting 3-tab shingles down to make a starter course when installing an asphalt shingle roof. This is not only a waste of shingles, but is a process that is as costly as it is time-consuming.
ShingleStarter®, manufactured by MFM Building Products, is an innovative, 50-mil shingle starter roll that features a peel-and-stick design for fast installation. The product is a black granulated surface laminated to an aggressive rubberized asphalt adhesive system, which can be placed directly onto the roof substrate or overtop common felt paper. It can even be applied over smooth surfaced self-adhering underlayments.
Additionally, the ShingleStarter features a "sealing strip" that bonds to the shingles to prevent wind uplift at the roof edge. When installing in colder temperatures, the shingles may not adhere at first, but when temperatures warm, the sealing strip bonds to the underside of the shingle for complete waterproofing protection. This also means that when roofing fasteners are driven through it, the membrane will seal around the fastener to prevent any water intrusion.
Not only does ShingleStarter provide the necessary waterproofing protection, but it also eliminates all the costs associated with cutting shingle tabs for the starter course. Installing the peel-and-stick membrane could save the contractor up to 50% or more in installation time. By covering the roof in a faster fashion, the sooner the entire structure will be protected from the elements.
ShingleStarter is packaged in individual rolls that measure 7.2” x 33.5’. It meets the requirements of ASTM D 1970, is Miami-Dade County Approved, Florida Building Code FL 11842 and ICC-ES ESR-1737. ShingleStarter is made in the USA and features a five-year warranty. Start saving time and money with these shingle starters!
