After a prolonged four-year hiatus caused by COVID restrictions, the anticipation among participants for the resumption of Canada's bi-annual ROOFTech expo was overwhelming. ROOFTech had established itself as one of the premiere roofing expos in the country, making its return an eagerly awaited occasion. Recently, on an episode of the Roofing Road Trips Podcast, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Troy Ferreira, the technical director for the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA), who shed some light on the exciting prospects that awaited attendees at the tradeshow.
One of the highlights of ROOFTech 2023 was the introduction of a new feature called "Product Talks," which Troy enthusiastically elaborated on. He described these talks as "smaller seminars geared towards manufacturers [that showed] some of their latest products, new technologies and new installations." It was evident that these sessions provided an exclusive platform for manufacturers to showcase their latest innovations, enabling attendees to stay up to date with the industry's advancements.
Alongside the Product Talks, ROOFTech also incorporated two business seminars each day, specifically scheduled prior to the opening of the trade shows. As Troy pointed out, one of these seminars focused on catering to the needs and interests of roofing contractors, while the other targeted architects, specifiers and building owners, ensuring a comprehensive range of topics for different segments of the industry.
ROOFTech held immense value as an opportunity for attendees to connect and network within the tightly knit roofing community. Troy emphasized the remarkable camaraderie within the industry, stating, "The roofing industry is quite a niche industry, I find. People are really connected, and when they come together at an event like this, it doesn't matter that out in the field that they might be your competitors." This highlights the unique environment where participants transcended competition to engage in collaborative networking, forging new friendships, establishing valuable contacts, and engaging in meaningful discussions about industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices. Ultimately, ROOFTech served as a valuable and highly anticipated platform for like-minded individuals to come together, share knowledge and foster progressive conversations about the roofing industry.
