It was appropriate that our most popular article in May was about National Safety Stand Down Week, May 6 – 10, 2019. Tremco Roofing’s article about their participation in the program along with their use of iAuditor to perform real-time jobsite analysis of work tasks, potential hazards and solutions to mitigate incident risks was the most read article of May.
While safety must always be first in the roofing industry, the second thing on many of our minds is the labor shortage and building the future workforce as evidenced by our second most-read article. RCS heard about an initiative that started at an Iowa homebuilders’ association meeting and within two years, grew into a statewide effort to recruit youth into a career in the trades. We had the chance to interview the director and share their story with you. Perhaps it will inspire you to start something in your area?
Stories about people are always popular on the Coffee Shop and that proved true again with our third most-read article being about how the holidays aren’t ever going to be the same for a Beacon Roofing Supply branch in Austin, Texas. Knowing how hard employees work this time of year and that they might not have time to get to the store to get Mother’s Day gifts, the branch manager bought bouquets of flowers and a stack of cards. Each employee had their pick of gifts. It was so appreciated that it’s destined to become the new tradition.
Right behind that was another people story about what a day in the life of a technician at Tremco/WTI is like and in fifth place was information about the topics that Cotney Construction Law attorneys would be presenting on at the Western States Roofing Contractors Association annual convention.
