Sweet Embrace, the color of the year

The 2024 Color of the Year, Sweet Embrace™ from AkzoNobel, brings a new dimension to coil and extrusion coatings. A color that’s perfect for professionals in architecture and domestic appliances seeking to create unique, calming spaces for people living in a world of constant change. 

Drawing inspiration from soft feathers and evening clouds, Sweet Embrace is a welcoming pastel pink. According to global trends, people are searching for belonging and reassurance and want their daily experiences to instill joy and peace, which Sweet Embrace accomplishes. 

Henri Bijsterbosch, color marketing manager for AkzoNobel’s Industrial Coatings business, explains that the choice of Sweet Embrace is rooted in extensive research into global social, design and consumer trends. “Our research shows that in a constantly changing world, people seek places that provide calm and moments of joy,” says Henri. “We need places that make us feel calm, but which also provide moments of joy. Identified by our in-house paints and coatings color experts and international design professionals, these trends will influence how we choose our colors.” 

To complement Sweet Embrace, AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center has developed three unique color stories, each reflecting themes of belonging, calm and joy: 

• Warm color story: This palette evokes the comfort of home with shades of stone, soil and clay, creating a safe and cozy atmosphere. 
• Calm color story: Inspired by nature, this collection features soft greens and blues that mirror the tranquility of woods and seas. 
• Uplifting color story: Bright and cheerful, this palette includes dreamy lilacs, fluid grays and vibrant yellows, designed to inspire creativity and joy. 

“Our Color of the Year, Sweet Embrace, and its three complementary color stories, are an inspiration for great combinations of colors to create a variety of different moods.
