You don’t have to look too far around you to see the effects of Covid, and yes, even the roofing industry was massively affected by the virus. On a past episode of Roofing Road Trips, David Corson of Commercial Construction & Renovation sat down with host Heidi J. Ellsworth, to talk about the construction industry in a post-pandemic world.
Luckily, contractors were often deemed essential during the pandemic, so not too much work was lost. David told Heidi, “If you were deemed an essential business, which a lot of people were, most contractors … depending on what sector you were in, if you were building restaurants, you probably took a hit. But if you were building multi-family or healthcare or any of that kind of stuff, you put your mask on, and you got on the plane and you just went along with your business. I think that was the only difference. And there was a little more protocols on the construction sites.”
And while some protocols have changed, there are some things to look forward to in the post-Covid world. One is the implementation of solar and EV charging stations at big box stores and how they’re being installed on roofs and in parking lots all over the country. “[All big companies are] dabbling in it in some way or fashion,” says David. “Some of the bigger boxes, they've all put in the EV charging stations, they're all putting up panels to gather energy. So when they're not off the grid, they can sell their energy supply.”
Listen to Heidi and David’s full conversation about the status of the contracting industry post-Covid.
