In this product demonstration from APOC, we got to see their 583 Armor-Base Primer in action.

When applying a roof coating over asphalt substrates, one of the main concerns is that the pre-existing roof will bleed through the coating. Thankfully, APOC has their 583 Armor-Base™ Waterborne Bleed-blocking Primer to prevent this very issue from happening. In a recent video taken at the 2023 Western Roofing Expo, we got to see this incredible roof coating primer in action.

In the video, Johnny Walker, APOC’s national technical manager of roofing and waterproofing, breaks down how to best apply this primer. To make the most of the 583 Armor-Base Primer, John tells us that you want to use it with a silicone coating and proper patch product. John says if you are using a white silicone roof coating over an asphalt substrate and you want it to stay bright white, the bleed-blocking primer is necessary to achieve this. Installing the primer is also a hassle-free process.

“It's really simple to apply,” John says. "It’s a water-based product so there's no mixing involved. When you open this bucket, it's ready to go. You don't have to have a drill and a paddle.

In the demo, they also show you how to use the primer along with a polyester reinforcement. John says this primer works great with a reinforcement because you can do it directly into the primer, which will save you time and money.

“It's a lot less expensive to embed the polyester into the base coat of your bleed blocker than it is to embed it into the silicone,” he says. “If you're going to embed polyester you really want to make sure you give that another couple of days to cure because it's going to go down a lot thicker.”
