By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.
I first met Trent Cotney when he was just starting out with his own law firm in Florida. We were both serving on the board of the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association. It was easy to see Trent’s passion about the roofing industry and helping contractors run successful businesses. It was also evident in how quickly his firm began to grow throughout the state of Florida. That growth soon expanded outside of the state and led to offices in cities throughout the U.S. and now Canada.
There is one thing that Trent has always put first – the success of the industry. He donates his time to our many industry associations, providing services that would otherwise cost these organizations thousands of dollars. I’ve experienced it firsthand through the establishment of both National Women in Roofing and the Roofing Technology Think Tank. Trent’s team helped both organizations become established and continues to help them today. His firm supports numerous other industry associations serving as general counsel as well as other charitable causes.
Because he believes so strongly in giving back, Trent is hoping to inspire others this month to give back by matching donations (up to $2500 each in total) made to the following four industry organizations:
Chicago Roofing Contractors Association - CRCA Foundation
Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association - FRSA Educational & Research Foundation
Roofing Alliance - Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program
Western States Roofing Contractors Association - Davis Memorial Foundation
As you think about your charitable gifts for the upcoming holiday, consider giving back to the industry that has been so generous to many of us throughout our careers. The best part about your donation is that Cotney Construction Law will match it!
