International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC)
International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) is an international nonprofit association of professionals who specialize in roofing, waterproofing, and exterior wall specification and design.
From sprayed polyurethane foam to cedar shakes, from parking garages to air barriers, IIBEC has a member expert for every type of roof, exterior wall, or waterproofing issue in the world today.
Mission Statement: The mission of IIBEC is to advance the profession of building enclosure (roofing, waterproofing and exterior wall) consultants.
Since 1983, IIBEC’s, formerly RCI, Inc., Consultant members have offered unbiased design, repair planning, quality assurance observance, legal testimony, and general roofing and other building enclosure management services. IIBEC’s Consultant members adhere to a strict code of ethics that offers unprejudiced service without affiliation with any product or manufacturer. Current membership is over 3,600. IIBEC boasts an international constituency residing across the United States, Canada, Australia, the West Indies, Europe, and Asia.
The association presents educational programs, in-person and online, designed to demystify and explain the practical application of roofing and waterproofing technology and sound building enclosure theory. A monthly journal (Interface), a monthly newsletter (IIBEC Newsfeed), and international, regional, and chapter events provide interactive forums for information exchange and networking.
The Registered Roof Consultant (RRC®), Registered Waterproofing Consultant (RWC®), Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC®), Registered Roof Observer (RRO®), and Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (CBECxP®) coming in Spring 2020 programs distinguish professionals with proven standards of education, experience, and ethics. Individuals with all three consultant accreditations (RRC®, RWC®, and REWC®) may apply to be Registered Building Envelope Consultants (RBEC®). The RCI-IIBEC Foundation (U.S.) and the RCI Foundation Canada are tax-exempt entities, organizationally independent of the association, and support research and educational efforts of the industry.
The IIBEC mission is realized by a professional staff headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina and through the efforts of a volunteer board of directors, numerous committees and its individual members across the globe.

Submit your abstract for presentation at the 2027 IIBEC International Convention & Trade Show

IIBEC is now accepting abstract submissions for the 2027 IIBEC International Convention & Trade Show at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, TX, March 18–21, 2027. Join us as a presenter at the premier event for roofing, waterproofing, exterior wall and building enclosure commissioning professionals.
With an outstanding educational program, two-day trade show with live demonstrations and an abundance of networking opportunities, the 2027 IIBEC Convention and Trade Show is not to be missed.
IIBEC is seeking technical articles and presentations for consideration. Put your skills, knowledge and talent to work for your profession!
Guidelines for abstract submissions
- Abstract submission should be a concise proposal of new information that is technically sound and credible and include the following:
- Primary issue being addressed.
- Type and basis of the new information that will be contributed to the industry (e.g., research conducted, personal experience).
- Intended primary audience concise statement describing the new information and how the information will be useful to the primary audience.

IIBEC core courses
First in the Roofing Practice series, the Roof Assemblies: Fundamentals course covers topics relevant to the practice of roof consulting and related roofing activities, including the design, manufacture, installation, observation, inspection, and maintenance of roof components and assemblies. It is targeted at current and prospective roof consultants, roof observers, architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, manufacturer representatives, students and all other learners already in or planning to enter the building enclosure profession.

- Three instructional modules, each with a video presentation and downloadable handbook PDF to take notes.

- Summative assessment consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions.

Introducing IIBEC’s new roofing practice series: A modern learning experience for roofing professionals
The IIBEC Education team, along with consultant lead author Elizabeth Grant, PhD, RA, and a dedicated task force of volunteers, is excited to announce a new educational initiative — the Roofing Practice Series.
This eight-course series reimagines IIBEC’s premier Roof Technology & Science I and II courses into stackable, bite-sized modules. Each course offers three hours of focused education, giving professionals the flexibility to learn at their own pace—one course at a time or as a complete series. The first course, Roof Assemblies: Fundamentals, debuts December 3, 2025, marking the launch of this innovative new series.
Each course strengthens the technical foundation for those seeking IIBEC credentials and continuing education hours (CEHs), whether you’re an emerging professional or a seasoned expert.

IIBEC call for candidates
Nominations are currently being sought for the offices of the first vice president, second vice president, and secretary/treasurer of IIBEC, as well as for directors of Regions IV, V, and VI.
Individuals interested in running for an IIBEC office or interested in submitting a name for potential nomination should submit their information at IIBEC Board of Directors – Request for Candidacy Information or you may email Manager of Human Resources and Board Operations Carolyn Baber at cbaber@iibec.org.
Please note: Only consultant members in good standing for the previous two or more years may hold office and serve on the IIBEC Board of Directors. All individuals submitting a bid for candidacy must adhere to the IIBEC Candidate Policy Guidelines, starting with submission of a candidate profile. An individual’s bid for candidacy will not be considered valid by the IIBEC Nominating Committee unless a profile is received by the stated deadline of Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Excellence in Building Enclosure Consulting Awards
Introducing the Excellence in Building Enclosure Consulting Awards: elevating and highlighting the value that building enclosure consultants bring to a project, the EBEC Awards recognize outstanding contributions by building enclosure professionals, their collaborators, and their clients. This award recognizes outstanding contributions by building enclosure professionals, their collaborators, and their clients in support of the design, delivery, and advancement of building enclosure performance in one or more of the categories of roofing, exterior wall, waterproofing, building enclosure, and commissioning. Submit your project for industry recognition in one of five categories: exterior wall, roofing, waterproofing, commissioning, or building enclosure. The application portal will reopen in August of 2024 for the 2025 competition.
