I do pretty much nothing but shingles for the last 30 years. But I have a possible 5v job coming soon. I worry about the metal dust created. by driving in the screws. However you make sure none is left on the panel to avoid rust spots. Also oil canning, never found a way to avoid this. What's the best way to ventilate???. Would appreciate any tips on 5v.???? THANKS

5v applied to many $300,000.00 -$500,000.00 homes here. Holds up well especially if applied with 3/4 inch foam and battens. There are problems with most if not all roofing installs and products. Maintenence is the key to most problems. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Evey Day

5v galvalume coverage is 24 inches. It's popular on the beaches, holds up good in hurricanes, the screws are exposed. Standing seam fasteners are hidden.

"your the first roofer to tell me that" is a common phrase I hear. I love hearing that, but many times it's a job killer.

Is it the same as a classic rib 36" panel? I've heard people call a different profile of that standing seam. That'll make ya laugh.

We do have a LOT of people that want pole barn metal on their houses around here. I've finally caved in and started bidding them. The conversation normally starts like this:

Customer: I heard them thar metal roofs are cheaper.

Me:

No clue. Never used it on a home. On small dog houses, I use a 1" drip edge all around and lock all sides to that, no screws. You might check the DIY forums for homeowner solutions.
