671 Karna-Seal: A silicone sealant solution

KARNAK’s sealant is durable, weather-resistant and ready to use. 

Years ago, sealant products were specifically geared toward asphalt roof systems since they were the most prevalent. Today, asphalt is still a popular roof choice, but there’s also been a rise in single-ply membrane roofs, therefore roofing contractors need sealant products that are more versatile and can be used for multiple substrates in different regions. Chris Huttig, national director of technical services for KARNAK, spoke about their latest solution to meet this growing need in this CoatingsCast® episode. 

“671 Karna-Seal is a single component, moisture-curing, 100% silicone product that's used for making repairs and is very easy to work with,” Chris shared. “We're finding there's a lot of silicone out there, so contractors are needing a silicone sealant to make those repairs, because only silicone is going to stick to silicone.” 

On top of filling this need for silicone-coated roofs, another key benefit of 671 Karna-Seal product is that it resists ponding water.  

“There are so many times these critical repairs are in a ponding condition or around a drain bowl or a scupper, someplace that water just doesn't drain off well,” Chris added. “671 Karna-Seal allows them to make a permanent repair onto a roof that’s not going to degrade. It's going to bond to the substrate, it's low VOC, which is very good, low odor, so they can use it in a number of different instances where that might be an issue. And, as an emergency repair, it will stick to a wet surface.”
