At this year’s Western Roofing Expo, IKO made waves with the launch of two new colors in its Cambridge® and Dynasty® Cool Colors™ Plus line — Shoreline Grey and Harbor Black. Dyana Sweigart, IKO’s U.S. residential marketing services manager, caught up with Megan R. Ellsworth at The Coffee Shops™ Sound Stage to talk about the brand’s excitement for the launch and their focus on the latest trends in roofing design and emphasizing energy efficiency.
The launch was strategically timed to coincide with California’s evolving cool roof requirements, which aim to improve energy performance through higher solar reflectivity. “In the state of California, and LA County specifically, they have cool requirements,” Dyana explained. “The shingles need to have special granules to achieve a certain solar reflectivity.”
IKO’s new Harbor Black and Shoreline Grey color blends meet those standards while offering the deep, modern tones homeowners want. “Owners really want that deep, dark color blend for their homes,” Dyana said, “And it still has the 20-plus SRI, which is the requirement for LA County.”
The new developments are also gaining attention beyond California. “We’re seeing more trends in certain cities, like Atlanta, GA, announcing similar requirements starting next year,” Dyana noted. “We’re trying to keep our ear to the ground and listen to what homeowners are looking for.”
