In Season 3, Episode 1 of Roofing Road Trips, RoofersCoffeeShop® Partner Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with Breakthrough Academy’s Danny Kerr to celebrate their new show, Contractor Evolution.
Danny was introduced to the contracting industry when he was 18 and started his own painting business as part of a franchise organization called College Pro Painters. Then after a couple of years honing his chops and learning everything he could, he moved up into corporate for that organization and became head of HR for Western Canada. After learning about franchise systems and teaching numerous franchisees how to build their own organizations, he decided to use this knowledge to build a business of his own, and Breakthrough Academy was born.
“We spent years now building all these cool companies, having all these crazy success stories, and I'm the only person to talk about it,” Danny says to Heidi. “And there's so much gold that goes on behind the curtains, I was like, let's just show everyone what's actually been going on. Let's interview the actual people on the ground doing this stuff.”
The new multimedia show was produced specifically for high-performing contractors who want to scale up, work less and increase profitability. Danny tells us, “We're interviewing a lot of our members, we're interviewing industry professionals, and we're interviewing some of the key vendors that we work with.”
Danny explains the incredible insights that have already come out of the first three episodes of the show, “There's a lot of learning that our members have gone through the last couple of years.”
“There are really cool successes that are almost hard to believe when you look at their numbers, people that have doubled and tripled in size, their profitability has gone through the roof," says Danny. “And it's cool to see that as a testimonial, it's a whole other thing to listen to an hour-long podcast of exactly how they did it, what they did and what their journey looked like, because I think a lot of people are trying to figure that out.”
While a lot of other shows focus on early-stage growth challenges, Contractor Evolution focuses on real-life scenarios faced by contractors who are scaling at a rapid rate, and how they keep everything dialed in without losing sight of their work/life balance.
The show is already receiving positive feedback, “Our members love that they get to hear about each other's success stories a little more, because it kind of brings them all closer,” says Danny. He emphasizes that more than bolstering the community, the show has inspired other contactors to improve their sales and how they do marketing.
“All these little things that we teach are now becoming public conversations that we can have with everybody else,” says Danny.
