Education Plays Key Role in Employee Safety

RCS Influencer Charles Antis talks with his safety coordinator to share some of their best safety practices and employee education efforts.

Hi, I'm Charles Antis, CEO and Founder at Antis Roofing and Waterproofing, and this month on RoofersCoffeeShop I get to talk about what I love. Every nail matters. We say that a lot here, but that could not be truer than when we talk about our employees. Their lives, safety of them, safety of our employees matters.

And so, we're going to talk about our safety initiatives, some of them at Antis Roofing, and who better than Jovan Pardo, our safety coordinator, to let us in on some of the magic we have with safety here at Antis Roofing.

Jovan: Thank you, Charles. So here at Antis Roofing our education matters a lot, right? So, all our employees are OSHA 10 certified. Along with that, all our supervisors are OSHA 30 certified, which is great there. So, that's how we lead to the communication side of it, and all our techs are able to communicate in really any hazardous situations out in the field and talk to us about what other forms we can go ahead and be safe in.

Charles: I like that at all our techs are certified, at least OSHA 10. What next? What else do we do?

Jovan: Okay. We also reward them. As you can see our pictures in the back, we reward them for their safety initiatives, right? If they're pushing above and beyond on safety, then we go ahead and reward them.

Charles: We just had a big to-do at Knott's Berry Farm two weeks ago where we highlighted about 20 of the best practices of our employees, and safety is one of the most important ones. As you can see in these awesome pictures where Marcelo, our field technician, received the Beta Wolf award because he's following guidelines to ensure his team safety. And Jovani Cabrera, same thing. He exhibits excellence in safety leadership. We reward that here.

Jovan: And because of that, we are now currently at 471 days of no lost time.

Charles: 471, that's impressive. Give me five. Last thing. Don't we also give retractable devices to all of our techs in the field?

Jovan: Yes. All our techs, they are assigned with a self-retracting lifeline, which is an SRL.

Charles:  And we provide that, correct?

Jovan: Yes.

Charles: Safety's a big deal. How do we say every nail matter, especially our employees, in Spanish?
