New Roof at Children’s Hospital Provides Protection AND a Play Area

When it became obvious the leaking roof could not be repaired or restored, the hospital got a new roof that was turned into a play area for families.

Since 1964, CHOC Children’s Hospital has been committed to providing the highest quality medical care to children. CHOC is affiliated with UC Irvine and has been named one of the best children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.

When leaking water was detected in multiple areas of the 3,760 square foot roof that covered their pediatric mental health unit, including around drains and water between roof layers, CHOC was committed to investing in the highest quality, long-term protection for their building.

After multiple attempts to repair the leaks, it became obvious that they were going to need a new roof. Best Contracting Services was selected to remove the roof down to the concrete deck and replace it with Tremco Roofing’s fully reinforced AlphaGuard BIO Fluid Applied System, a protection mat and drain boards. The durability and low odor of the AlphaGuard BIO system is perfectly suited for sensitive hospital environments.  After the installation of the system a rubber play area was installed for patients and their families to enjoy the southern California climate.
