Winter is just around the corner, but you can still enjoy St. Paul, Minnesota in some above-freezing temperatures at the 2024 Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) Fall Meeting! In this episode of CoatingsCast, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with Jenn Brake, RCMA’s executive director, and Chris Huettig, their current president to talk about the meeting being held from October 23 to October 25 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
To start the conversation off, Chris shared a bit about RCMA in general, saying, “We are one of the oldest organizations and associations in the roofing industry. We are the voice of the coatings industry. So that means asphalted goods, aluminum coatings and today's coatings (the urethanes, the silicones, acrylics and everything else).” They serve everyone from manufacturers and contractors to testing laboratories by providing up-to-date information and resources. One of the ways they work towards this mission is by hosting meetings, like the upcoming Fall Meeting!
Jenn shared a bit about what to expect at the meeting, which will be at the Intercontinental Hotel right on the river, saying, “It's right after the MRCA's conference and expo. So what better excuse than to attend two events right in a row?” The event will start off on Wednesday, October 23 with three committees (communications/marketing, technical and government affairs) meeting. Then there will be programming and sessions all day on Thursday, October 24 and for half the day on Friday, October 25, before everyone heads back home. This is a great opportunity for industry professionals to learn and grow, Jenn shared, “They're going to have a chance to network and to get to know one another and to really address what's happening in the industry.”
There are some key sessions and events to look out for, such as a lab’s presentation on a coating study that has been eight years in the making and a talk focusing on sustainability. One that Chris especially wanted to highlight was the RoofersCoffeeShop® contractor panel, sponsored by General Coatings, which will happen on Friday! He explained why he loves this event so much, saying, “It's always great to have contractors and have that panel where we're asking questions from the field and we're getting real responses in time from people who are out there applying all of our products out there and telling us what they're seeing and how they're doing it.”
