Racing for a cause

Learn about how ABC Supply is driving change for veterans at the Indianapolis 500! 

At RoofersCoffeeShop (RCS)® we love to shine a light on those in the industry who are giving back through philanthropic projects. So, when ABC Supply partnered with AJ Foyt Racing to raise funds and awareness for Homes for our Troops (HFOT) at the Indianapolis 500, Heidi J. Ellsworth made sure RCS got the scoop in a Roofing Road Trips® episode with Brigadier General, USA (Ret) Tom Landwermeyer, president and CEO of HFOT and Staff Sergeant (Ret) Liam Dwyer, an HFOT veteran and 2020 Home Recipient. 

ABC Supply has been supporting HFOT for much longer than this one instance. Tom explained, “We have a couple partners like that, but they're the ones that stand out. They are completely and fully all-in with our mission. And their capability to help us out with any task, it doesn't matter how big or how small a task, they're always there.” Because of their support, HFOT is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. Tom described some of their many accomplishments, “We've built and donated 379 of these custom homes to date across 45 states. We got 77 projects underway across the country, another hundred veterans in the application process of our program.” 

This support makes an immeasurable difference for the receiving veterans. Liam said it had an incredible impact on him and his family, with HFOT being the only organization that responded to him and his wife’s application. He explained, “We were able to afford to do IVF and get a son, that's one benefit of it. But probably the biggest benefit is my freedom of independence for living here.” During his service, Liam suffered injuries that resulted in amputation of his left leg and damage to his other limbs, meaning traditional homes were not accessible for him. HFOT made him a home that returned his ability to move around by designing it specifically for his needs, giving him some of the freedom he fought for.  

This May, you can help ABC Supply support HFOT during the Indy 500. This event both raises awareness of HFOT’s mission and involves a fundraiser aspect. Tom elaborated, “The last couple of years they’ve matched the first million that we brought in. Last year we were able to bring in two on our own, with the million dollar match it gave us 3 million for the month. And this year they wanted to up that.”
