As private equity enters the chat, roofing contractors must have their tech stacks in order. That’s the message Vishal Laddha, guest on this Roofing Road Trips® podcast episode, had to share. In this conversation, the ServiceTitan Senior Director of Exterior Strategy, Vishal Laddha, shares how software is shaping the future of roofing consolidation efforts.
It’s not just buyouts making headlines; it’s the technology infrastructure behind them that’s proving to be a key differentiator. Vishal, who recently joined ServiceTitan after eight years at GAF, has had a front-row seat to this transformation. Vishal noted, “Technology has really become a central part of that conversation.”
According to Vishal, private equity firms don’t just want to buy roofing companies; they want to scale them. But running a patchwork of local businesses under one umbrella demands more than just spreadsheets. “These firms often want to roll out multiple companies and operate them as one seamless business,” Vishal said. “But that requires centralized systems for reporting, financing, sales and even customer management.”
ServiceTitan, a platform already proven as vital in HVAC, plumbing and electrical operations, is now positioning itself as the go-to infrastructure for this kind of scale in roofing. The challenges PE groups face with roofing companies are plentiful. From fragmented reporting to clunky legacy systems that don’t talk to each other, Vishal outlined three major gaps: reporting, centralized operations and the need for consistency.
Contractors aiming to get acquired or just stay competitive are eager to make a change. Vishal noted, “I've seen contractors, even today, that haven’t been bought yet thinking about what technology they need to adopt to become more appealing to a private equity firm.”
One of the most persistent issues? The lack of an end-to-end solution. “It’s one of the most common things I’ve heard from contractors, ‘I need an end-to-end solution and there isn’t one,’” Vishal said. “Contractors have had to cobble together multiple tools. Those systems don’t always talk to each other.” ServiceTitan aims to be the system that solves this issue for roofers.
With AI, predictive analytics and smarter workflow tools entering the scene, the pace of change is accelerating. But beneath the buzzwords, one thing is clear: roofing businesses need to evolve or get left behind.
