The Beneficial Inspection

Rudy Gutierrez Inspections
September 2, 2021 at 9:30 a.m.

RCS Influencer Rudy Gutierrez says a good inspection system and strategy will ensure you meet all contractual requirements and can help you prepare for potential setbacks.

Inspections are an important part of contracting. Lack of oversite and or quality control can lead to poor performance on a roofing project. Inspections in roofing means making sure that things are done according to the contractual agreements, plans, specifications and permit requirements. The inspection process checks the quality plan and quality control process to confirm that quality standards are implemented on the project.

There is an Inspection of Roof Construction clause that should be included in a roof contract. Roofing Contractors must maintain adequate inspection systems and perform inspections of their work to ensure it meets contractual requirements. Roofers must also maintain complete inspection records and make them available to the owner and or the owner's representatives. It is important that an inspection report includes consistent and very specific information regarding the roofing project. Include photographs and data in the report, so that changes in roof condition can be verified, and so that a historic record of roof condition is available for future inspections. Maintain records of all: inspections, roofing repairs and replacements.

It is important to have a good inspection strategy system that deals with conditions and adjustments to the roofing project. Having a strategic guideline and focus in coordinating a roofing project inspection will prove to be beneficial to the success of the project. An inspection strategy in a roofing contract should include the following steps in documenting Inspections for a contract: review the roofing contract documents, scope of work, technical specifications and installation phases. Human error and change orders are inevitable in a roofing project. The importance of roof inspections lies in a good inspection strategy that deals with errors and necessary adjustments. Having a good inspection strategy centered around the connectedness of a roofing project team will help with the success of the roofing project and its on-time delivery.

I hope this perspective proves to be beneficial.
