In this CoatingsTalk webinar, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Dylan Wheeler, strategic account manager for SOPREMA, to discuss the importance of roof coatings as an economical alternative to full roof replacements.
Dylan discussed a critical aspect of the decision-making process: the percentage of roof saturation. "If it exceeds that 20% of the roof being saturated and wet... then we start looking at a re-roof as an option," Dylan stated. This guideline is crucial for ensuring that building owners aren’t making an investment that approaches the cost of a complete re-roof, while still taking full advantage of the benefits that coatings provide. The approach not only saves money but also aligns with sustainability goals, a growing concern in the industry.
The versatility of roof coatings, particularly for modified bitumen roofs, was another focal point of the conversation. Dylan stated, "Now when you get into modified bitumen, modified bitumen smooth or granulated are fantastic candidates for roof coats," which is a process that involves thoroughly cleaning and drying the roof before applying SOPREMA’s high-performance coatings. This method preserves the roof’s structural integrity and significantly enhances its energy efficiency, making it an attractive option for building owners. The application process is designed to be non-intrusive, allowing tenants to continue their daily activities without experiencing the disruptions typically associated with roof replacements.
As roofing systems evolve, SOPREMA’s expanding product lineup, including the introduction of PMMA formulations, provides contractors with even more tools to meet diverse client needs. Dylan noted that SOPREMA’s focus remains on offering solutions that maximize both the longevity of roofing systems and the return on investment for building owners.
