Commercial roofers press for unified software as tech stacks grow unwieldy

Commercial roofers press for unified software as tech stacks grow unwieldy
December 20, 2025 at 12:00 a.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Commercial roofing contractors are pushing hard for technology that actually fits how they sell, service and manage roofs instead of juggling a dozen disconnected tools.

Terial is positioning itself as a one-stop technology partner for commercial roofing contractors who are tired of managing sprawling software stacks that do not talk to each other. Host Megan Ellsworth opened this Roofing Road Trips® episode by welcoming Aaron Weinstein, co-founder and CEO of Terial, who set the stage for the company’s role in addressing those challenges across the industry.

Those challenges are not theoretical. They are daily realities for contractors in the field, including Denver-based RNG Roofing, a commercial contractor focused on large multifamily and low-slope private asset management projects. During the conversation, owner Lauren Morley described how managing multiple platforms became a constant obstacle. “We focus on large commercial roofs, both multifamily and low slope private asset management and we have a pretty robust service to perfect.”

Lauren explained that keeping work moving often meant relying on too many disconnected tools. “Right now or at least before today, we were using something for time clocks, something for proposals, something for estimating, something for photos. you know, 17 different outfits for one thing.” While the number of available software platforms has grown, she said usability has not always kept pace. “I think probably the other thing I've noticed is a lot of growth in all the different platforms and different ones coming out. I've always joked that I've always felt like there's kind of programs that speak Japanese and programs that speak Latin, but none that really spoke English.”

Those contractor pain points set the stage for why unified platforms are gaining attention across commercial roofing. Rather than adding another point solution to the stack, many contractors are now looking for systems that bring workflows together and reflect how roofing businesses actually operate in the field and the office.

That is the gap Terial set out to address. Aaron, who outlined the company’s approach to commercial roofing technology. “We are a one-stop shop for commercial roofing contractors when it comes to technology. So, think of us helping support everything from managing your sales and estimating process through closing an invoice and finishing a re-roof project.”

Aaron said Terial entered the roofing industry a little more than two years ago after recognizing how fragmented contractor software environments had become. “We identified that gap or that issue, that problem that Lauren just stated, which was you should not need eight, 10, 11 pieces of software to run your commercial roofing business. You just shouldn't. And the worst part about that is that none of those pieces of software would speak to each other.”

The company’s answer has been to build an integrated platform designed to support both field crews and office teams without forcing contractors into rigid workflows. Aaron noted, “So I think when we came in, we said, how do we build the easiest piece of software or platform to operate both in the field and in the office, but then how do we also kind of combine those distinct point solutions?”

For contractors like RNG Roofing, the shift toward unified software is about more than convenience. It is increasingly tied to efficiency, profitability and responsiveness to building owners. As tech stacks grow more complex, platforms that simplify workflows for both the office and the field are beginning to stand out. By targeting the “17 different outfits for one thing” problem and focusing on tools that speak the language of roofing, Terial aims to give commercial roofers a clearer path from lead to invoice on every project.
