Contractors focused on service and repair routinely face a practical issue: how to bring dependable welding equipment onto the roof without adding complexity or compromising performance. At the International Roofing Expo (IRE) 2026 in Las Vegas, Leister introduced a cordless hand welder designed to remove that friction, offering a mobile solution in a category long defined by corded tools.
Dave Nordentoft, product manager for the roofing category at Leister, said the NextHeat 300 A-LP was developed in direct response to sustained contractor demand for a battery-powered tool that performs as a true welder rather than a conventional heat gun. He explained, “The marketplace has been asking for a tool like this for quite a while.” That distinction is critical in repair environments, where precision, consistency and mobility must operate together, often in locations where access to power is limited or impractical.
In practice, the tool is built to support efficient, high-quality repairs without introducing variability into the welding process. One of the primary concerns with battery-powered equipment is the potential for heat loss as the battery drains, which can compromise weld integrity. To address that, the unit incorporates a battery management system that maintains consistent temperature output throughout operation, allowing contractors to complete repairs with greater confidence in the final result.
Its runtime, typically 14 to 15 minutes at maximum temperature, aligns with the short, intermittent welds that define most repair work. Dave explained, “Quite often, there’s a need for very short instances of welding, right? Maybe a 5-minute quick patch.” Rather than relying on extended operation, crews can rotate batteries as needed, using onboard indicators to monitor remaining charge and maintain continuity on the job.
That same focus on real-world use extends to workflow flexibility. The tool can be shut off between welds without damaging the heating element, eliminating the need for prolonged cooldown procedures. When work resumes, it returns to operating temperature in approximately 20 to 30 seconds, allowing crews to move efficiently between tasks without delay.
Leister is releasing the product as a complete kit, including the welder, battery, charger and a purpose-built nozzle, ensuring contractors can begin using it immediately.
As the tool enters broader distribution across the United States, it reflects a continued shift toward equipment that prioritizes mobility, consistency and ease of use. As Dave noted, “We’re very happy to be here today to be able to say we’re ready to go. It’s happening. It’s time!”
