The current pandemic has affected all of us in unique ways. We decided to share our experiences as we navigate these unprecedented times from the bedrooms, kitchen tables, back decks and yoga mat offices (yes, they're a thing now) of the Nearmap team. We are dedicated to staying apart while still working together to benefit each other, our customers and our shared future.
Is Staying Apart Bringing Us Closer Together?
Change is something that we embrace at Nearmap. In fact it's why we actually exist – we change the way people can see the world, so they can profoundly change the way they work. So as the world began to change rapidly, we were quick to recognize that we needed to change with it and established our own COVID-19 task force.
Our task force, representing multiple areas across Nearmap, keeps our team informed and supported on best practices during this time. The team gathers insights such as how other businesses are responding to challenges and providing continuity for employees, customers and prospects alike.
Keeping Connected By Embracing Technology
We’re big fans of Slack – it keeps us connected in this socially distanced world. We’ve created a number of channels to support our team, too:
#Announcements: keeps our team informed on COVID-19 news and impacts
#NearmappingFromHome: showcases our employees efforts to stay productive, find work-life balance, and share insight and humor
#EmbarrassingPhotoFriday and #DescribeYourIsolationInaPic for some fun!
These channels help the company support every employee, and more importantly, they’re about Nearmappers supporting each other.
Daily Challenges
In April, our #NearmappingFromHome channel featured a calendar of daily challenges as a light-hearted way to support employees' mental and physical health. Challenges ranged from “bake something with only five ingredients” to facilitating virtual lunches with colleagues, and providing links to download a free meditation app.
If you've been anywhere near a social media channel recently, you can't help but notice the power of a shared picture and a shared experience. “What do you see from your window?” is a photo sharing group that reinforces the message of #StayAtHome and has quickly built a global community of contributors from 143 countries. The Facebook group “Bin Isolation Outing,” meanwhile, has nearly one million members posting videos of themselves dressing up to put their rubbish bins out!
Through our own #nearmappingfromhome noticeboard, we challenged our team to share pictures of the way they are working at home – their workspaces, outlooks and the lighter side of working alongside children, partners, flatmates and pets. Here we share just some of the deluge of submissions we received from colleagues near and far.

How are You Doing? Share Your Experiences
Across the United States, a variety of distilleries are forgoing making alcohol and brewing hand sanitizer instead, and global fashion houses are manufacturing face masks. In an upcoming blog article we're going to look at how other companies and individuals are adapting to this new normal.
We'd love to hear about your experience and observations and maybe share it in our story. Perhaps it's how your business is pivoting to new ventures. Or how your colleagues are doing something good to support the less fortunate in the community. It could be your tips for working smarter at home or a recipe for your favourite quarantine cookies. (How about all that baking?)
Please get in touch with your tips, observations and pics by emailing us.
