Meet the Most Reflective Membrane on the Market

Polyglass’s David Edwards explains CURE technology, cool roof reflectivity and sustainability in a new RCS podcast. 

In a new Roofing Road Trips Episode, Heidi J. Ellsworth travels across the country to Florida to visit Polyglass Commercial System Specialist David Edwards. A cool roof leader, Polyglass is known for their Kool Roof Coatings, and in particular the Polyfresko products.  

“Polyglass has a long, long history through the decades of innovating,” says David. “It's exciting to be a part of things as innovative as CURE technology, patented thin film innovation, as well as the different coatings and cool roof options and solutions that really help us move towards sustainability.” 

David tells Heidi what makes Polyfresko technology so exciting is that the modified bitumen membrane features a thin film that's placed on top of it. “We call it CURE technology. It's a patented thin film technology,” explains David. “CURE itself is an acronym that stands for ceramic micro spheres, ultraviolet stabilizers, resins and environmentally friendly.” 

Among the many benefits associated with CURE technology is itsphenomenal reflectivity. “There's nothing quite like it out there in the bright white cap sheet world,” says David. “For example, look at the SRI, the solar reflectance index, the initial SRI and the three-year SRI, when it comes to Polyglass and Polyfresko the numbers, the initial SRI and the three-year SRI, exceeds every other modified bright white cap on the marketplace today.” 

This level of reflectivity is part of the reason cities like Los Angeles consider Polyglass membranes to be the preferred bright white cap sheet. “We have an initial SRI of 96 and a three-year SRI of 83. Again, all of this is easily accessed at coolroofs.org,” says David. “And all of the radiative property testing always has to be conducted by an accredited, independent testing laboratory and in accordance with their standards, and that would be CRRC-1. So that's exciting.”
