The demand for home improvement projects has steadily increased throughout 2020 and is expected to remain elevated well into 2021. One upgrade that more homeowners are considering is replacing their asphalt roof with the beauty and durability that only metal can deliver.
A press release from the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) indicates preferred colors are trending toward more earth tones. “We’re definitely seeing a desire for serene, calming colors that reflect a sense of peace, security and grounding. After the turmoil of 2020, it’s no wonder homeowners are gravitating toward harmonious, warm and soothing earth tone colors that feel both solid and natural,” said Renee Ramey, MRA executive director.
Metal also offers a wide variety of options that go beyond traditional standing seam metal. Metal roofs can mimic the look of tile, shake or traditional shingles, giving homeowners many options to complement the style of their home.
MRA agrees that the popularity of these styles is growing, saying, “Stamped, stone-coated and patterned metal roofing designed to look like shake, shingles, slate and tile in natural tones of dark gray, bronze, clay and loam are booming in popularity and represent another trend stemming from a turbulent 2020.”
Manufacturers are noticing the rising trends and are giving contractors additional capabilities to help grow the metal side of their roofing businesses to meet the increased demand. For example, Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings offers it’s Sher-Color™ program to vendors using their coatings on the roof substrate. The Sher-Color program provides homeowners easy-to-use product codes that are pre-matched to their metal roof color for use in all Sherwin-Williams stores. Accent pieces such as gutters, trim, shutters and more can be painted to match the roof color, creating a unique way to tie their aesthetic together!
Market researchers are predicting that the growth of the metal roofing market will continue to grow through at least 2026. With the many advantages that metal roofing delivers over other roofing systems, now is the time to look into adding metal roofing to your offerings.
