In this new RLW, Why Sustainable Solutions Matter, Heidi J. Ellsworth meets with SOPREMA’s Business Development Manager for Sustainable Solutions Jeff Moore for a conversation on how to make sustainability a core value of your business and build your business with green solutions.
“We all know sustainability in terms of energy efficiencies and recycled content, etc.,” says Jeff. “But what has happened here in the last four years is dramatic, in terms of the shift towards this carbon emissions consideration in this environment." Going green is proving to be much more than a trend, but a shift within the industry to sustainably manufacture roofing products and meet customer-driven demand.
“It's being driven by the consumer, who is wanting a healthier environment, right? Selecting products and such that are better for the environment,” says Jeff. “But on top of that, there is a push from the regulatory side with the municipalities and ordinances. We can talk about that, but it is being driven from both sides, which is healthy, and it's driving the building owners now to look at and desire buildings that can meet that demand.”
There can be no doubt that the industry is evolving, it is transforming into something much more earth friendly. Sustainability efforts are increasingly becoming synonymous with best practices as more customers choose green products, as architects specify eco-friendly roofing options and as more manufacturers look for solutions to lower carbon emissions.
“Roofing is an important piece [of this change]...right now, that's where the big push is – in trying to reduce the carbon footprint on those products,” says Jeff. There are so many opportunities for sustainability within the industry and roofs can make a big difference in our environment.
