S2:E36 Roofing Road Trips with Heidi - What to Expect at Decks to Dockets 2020

Hear from two amazing industry leaders about this year’s Decks to Dockets and the changes that have been made.

Alison LaValley of National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and Trent Cotney with Cotney Construction Law sat down with Heidi J. Ellsworth, RCS partner, for a Roofing Road Trips with Heidi podcast  to discuss the upcoming Decks to Dockets legal conference that will take place October 13-15, 2020.

Alison LaValley, vice president of strategic partnerships and member services at NRCA, as well as the overseer of the NRCA Legal Resource Center, has been a contributing industry leader for over 33 years. She and Trent are both excited about the potential outreach the seminar will have due to its highly accessible virtual setting. However, the energy and feel of an in-person seminar will be missed.

“We've re-booked for Austin for next year, so hopefully we'll be able to gather and have conversations like we're all desperately missing these days. But what's unique about this year's virtual conference, and I'm sure Trent will add to this and feels much the same, is that we're able to reach a broader audience,” said Alison.

This year’s conference is focusing on reaching every aspect of the roofing industry including commercial contractors, residential contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, as well as the manufacturing and distribution community.

“We've got nine programs set up that really can affect all of your businesses...I'm really excited about the virtual opportunity and the outreach and how many people we're going to be able to affect with this education this year,” said Alison.

Trent Cotney is the general counsel for NRCA. He added to Alison’s point on the positive changes and increased outreach that resulted from the Coronavirus pandemic, “One of the things we really wanted to do this year was look at COVID-19  as an opportunity. We've got a great lineup of seminars and [they’re] so easy to attend,” said Trent.

These must-see webinars provide fresh ideas on navigating crisis management, liability risk, contract documents, nondisclosure agreements, as well as legal issues concerning diversity in roofing. You can find the complete line up of speakers and their topics here.

“I'm very interested in every single one of these webinars,” said Trent. “I know that I will be attending every single one and I encourage everybody out there listening [to do the same]. This really is an amazing lineup, so [I’m] very excited to be a part of it.”
