Tackling roof challenges with specialty coatings

In this episode of CoatingsCast, hosted by Karen Edwards, Rick Murphy from Everest Systems discusses the company’s cutting-edge specialty products designed to address complex roofing challenges. Rick, a seasoned contractor turned technical support and specifications director, offers insight into how Everest Systems has reimagined coatings and primers to meet diverse environmental and material demands.

“Most of our products are specialty products,” Rick explains, detailing the company's unique approach to manufacturing. Unlike many competitors, Everest’s lineup includes uniquely tailored solutions such as the EverSeal system, which stands out for its ability to bond to surfaces that traditionally resist adhesives, like silicone. Rick notes, “Nothing sticks to silicone, but EverSeal does.”

One standout is the Eco-Level solution — a versatile, two-part chemical product used to eliminate ponding water on roofs. Rick shares how it has evolved beyond its original design to solve a range of challenges, from smoothing blistered asphalt to filling gaps around improperly installed vents. The product was met with great enthusiasm. Rick says, “We introduced it at one of the roof shows and it was the most viewed thing that we did. Everybody was excited about it.”  

The conversation also covered Everest’s direct-to-contractor model, which Rick champions for fostering education and proper usage. “We’re not selling to everybody. We’re selling systems and solutions, not just products,” he states. This approach ensures contractors receive the training necessary to optimize results and extend roof life, with Rick himself often stepping in to troubleshoot complex scenarios. Rick shares, “One of the things that we try to do is educate our contractors to use products correctly to make sure that, one, the products work as they're intended and two, use all the solutions that are on the roof.”
