Whether you’re new to the roofing industry or a long-time member, being part of a roofing association is one of the best things you can do for your career. Along with the sense of community you get from being an association member, you can also benefit from different perks each association has such as their tradeshows and exclusive member training. According to the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA), a membership to their association can provide a return on investment of $42 for every $1 invested!
In a recent podcast, we got to hear from the WSRCA’s President Rob Winkle about his experience with the association. Having inside experience with working in an association, he spoke highly about the industry information he has access to that they pass along to their members.
“The things that happen from state to state, that usually starts in one state, California, but eventually, it gets its way through the rest of the states,” Rob said. “We've been able to stay ahead of the curve, keep our members out of harm's way.”
Although there are great national roofing associations to be a part of, like the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), contractors can also benefit from an association membership that’s closer to home. One reason for this is the different climates each region and state experiences. Roofers working in areas with extreme heat may work differently as opposed to roofers in colder climates and each can benefit from each other's respective experiences.
“We produce information that is relevant to each of these regions,” Rob said. “We have a board of directors that is made up of contractors from across all of the regions that bring their expertise and experience that maybe I wouldn't have in certain conditions.”
Another great perk of association membership is the conventions and expos most of them hold. The WSRCA’s big annual expo is the Western Roofing Expo, an event for roofers everywhere to come together and gain valuable knowledge and connections. This year’s expo will be held on September 24-26 at the Paris Las Vegas and already has an exciting lineup of seminars and events.
“We have people coming in and doing safety seminars. We have a lot of seminars on installation practices and things of that nature,” Rob said. “And you don't want to miss the Davis Memorial Foundation events, whether it's the sporting clays, or the golf tournament, or the auction and reception.”
