More than just measurements

In the roofing world, EagleView is well known for its cutting-edge measurement technology. But EagleView is far from a one-trick pony, as there are a variety of different ways their imagery and data are used. In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Allan York, the senior vice president of construction and solar at EagleView, stopped by to share some of the ways that EagleView has been used over the years.

While known for their EagleView Assess drone program today, their story starts with an aircraft fleet. Allan explained, “We fly a fleet of aircraft at relatively moderate height altitude with very, very, very expensive, but also very, very high-quality cameras that get extreme amount of clarity and number. We get better than 1 inch per pixel on the clarity of our images.” From there, EagleView takes the images to build their own model, kind of like Google Earth. Allan elaborated, “It's high-clarity, three-dimensional data that you can extract endless amounts of data points from that allow us to do things that nobody else can do.” This is what allows them to help contractors get accurate measurements for their projects.

But that is not the only thing that EagleView’s incredible data is useful for. Allan shared, “While the construction and solar portion of EagleView's business is very important, we also do all kinds of things. We save lives in the realm of the 911 sector; SWAT teams use us. For example, when vans are going to live shooting situations, our tech is able to make a three-dimensional grid around whatever building they're going to so they can form a strategy that has exact data points of where they want to enter, how they want to go and where they think the shooters are.”  

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what EagleView’s high-quality data can do. It’s also a powerful asset for the telecommunications, government, insurance sectors and more. Allan put it simply, “Lots and lots of people look to EagleView to get the data that they need to do their jobs properly. Even just the number of lives that we've saved from salespeople not having to get on a roof or the number of trips to the hospital that we've saved from roofers not having to get on roofs during estimating is significant. We really feel like we bring a tremendous amount of value to the industry and to our community as a whole.”
